Role Summary
One of our retail clients is seeking a Technical Product Manager – AI Innovation to drive rapid experimentation and validation of AI‑driven solutions that address high‑impact business opportunities across the organization. This role will own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of AI proof‑of‑concepts (POCs)—from problem definition through evaluation and scale decisions—while enabling close collaboration between business stakeholders and AI engineering teams.
The ideal candidate is deeply skilled in problem framing, agile product execution, AI/ML collaboration, and stakeholder communication, and is comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, innovation‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
AI Opportunity Identification & Problem Definition
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify high‑value AI use cases aligned to Macy’s strategic priorities.
- Translate ambiguous business challenges into clear, testable problem statements suitable for AI/ML experimentation.
- Ensure problems selected are feasible, measurable, and appropriate for rapid POC development.
Proof of Concept (POC) Delivery & Ownership
- Define and own well‑scoped AI POCs, including objectives, assumptions, constraints, data requirements, and timelines.
- Establish clear success criteria and evaluation metrics (business, technical, and operational) for each POC.
- Drive rapid delivery of high‑quality POCs in close collaboration with AI engineers, data teams, and platform partners.
- Lead POC evaluations and provide clear recommendations on next steps (iterate, scale, or stop).
Collaboration & Orchestration
- Act as the primary liaison between:
- Business stakeholders
- AI/ML engineers
- Data platform teams
- Enterprise architecture, security, and compliance teams
- Orchestrate cross‑functional collaboration to resolve dependencies, manage tradeoffs, and maintain execution momentum.
- Ensure alignment on scope, priorities, and outcomes across all participants.
Product Execution & Agile Delivery
- Run focused daily status or stand‑up meetings to track progress, surface blockers, and enable fast decision‑making.
- Maintain a healthy, prioritized product backlog of AI initiatives based on business value, feasibility, and strategic alignment.
- Write well‑scoped Jira stories that provide AI engineers with clear requirements, context, acceptance criteria, and success metrics.
- Continuously refine scope to balance innovation speed with quality and practicality.
Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Produce clear, concise weekly status updates for stakeholders and leadership.
- Communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and decisions in a transparent and actionable manner.
- Facilitate POC readouts and decision forums with senior stakeholders and technology leaders.
Scaling & Enablement
- Identify and document reusable patterns, frameworks, and best practices from successful POCs.
- Help establish guardrails for responsible AI usage, data privacy, cost efficiency, and production readiness.
- Contribute to playbooks and standards that enable AI solutions to scale from experimentation into production.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Technical Product Manager, Product Owner, or similar role
- Proven experience managing AI/ML or data‑driven products, pilots, or POCs
- Strong understanding of:
- Agile product development
- AI/ML concepts and lifecycle (data, training, evaluation, deployment)
- Hands‑on experience working with engineering and data science teams
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive‑level updates
- Experience using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and collaboration platforms
