Dear
Member:
I
would like to begin my term as President with words of thanks. First, I am
thankful for the opportunity to lead such a strong, diverse and vibrant
kehillah. Our synagogue is a warm and welcoming place to pray, a center of
learning, and a source of countless chesed opportunities. In short, it is the
core of our community. Second, I am grateful to be following in the footsteps
of strong and caring leaders who have each contributed in important ways to our
continuing success.
Over
the next few years, however, our synagogue will be going through important
transitions. While nothing is as constant as change, the changes on our horizon
are significant. In the foreseeable future, we will be facing our first change
in senior rabbinic leadership in a generation. Further, we will be making long
term decisions about our catering services and facilities. In an uncertain
world, we will need to address continuing security concerns. Prudent and
careful fiscal responsibility remains a top priority. I see all these challenges
as exciting opportunities.
Managing
these transitions successfully will require strong leadership, and I am thankful
to be supported by a committed and talented Executive Committee -- Norris
Nissim, Jeremy Fingerman, Marcy Cohen, Greg Haber, Joseph Dyckman, and Danny
Federbush. And of course the Executive Committee and I have the privilege of
working with our full and experienced Board and our remarkable rabbinic team led
by Rabbi Goldin.
As
we have learned from recent parshiot, leadership can only take us so far. It is
the membership that ultimately makes the difference. We are successful because
of the many people who volunteer their time and talent to make our synagogue a
wonderful environment to pray, learn and grow. We hope each and every member
will feel involved and contribute to Ahavath Torah in meaningful
ways.
I
am thankful for the chance to make a contribution to a community that has meant
so much to me and my family. I hope the next few years will be rewarding for us
all.
Enjoy
the rest of your summer. We look forward to the upcoming year.
Sincerely,
Bruce
Brafman
