Some crazy shit. For real. But what can you do, right? Start a consultancy, hire some lobbyists, and start selling shit to the Pentagon until they/we all run out of money, I guess, and then the stars will fall from the sky.

I've been sitting at home recording demos of new stuff. It's very illuminating to make recording a part of your writing process after you think you have the basic ideas together. Because at that stage, it's about execution. And when you say to yourself, and/or your mates, this part should sound "spacey," and then you put together a demo, and you see that it doesn't sound "spacey" at all, you see... that you have more work to do. You start to realize that those "three new songs" you've been harping about are really three first drafts, and they're really not terribly good. And that's an excellent thing to see.

In other news: 

* My old mates now in Black Water are playing the closing reception for Colleen Gutwein's Time and Tide photography show (which is itself insanely good and not to be missed) at Paul Vincent Gallery in Hoboken this Friday with my friends The Amboys. Both of these bands are very good, and it's free.

* The Press got a great review for their new record, which they're releasing this Saturday at Matchless. Can't wait for the stage banter. I'm going to rock out.

* International pop sensation Tris McCall is kicking it tonight at Rockwood Music Hall, that beautiful and intimate little space with the piano taking up most of the stage. Free!

* Drunken Sufis are also playing tonight, at Lit Lounge. Good for a fix of fury.
