Dear Friends,

I've been told that I've been slacking off on Transmission, so it's rant time. Show info for this Friday is down below.

I know a lot of important things have happened in the past day or so, but I've damn well had enough of it all, so I'm going to complain about boob tubes past. If you want to see what is arguably the worst television show ever made, if you're into such things, as some of us are, I dare you to sit through an entire episode of Ally McBeal on Netflix. Bonus points if you can watch more than one episode, but have a drink ready. Never have I encountered a show that could be so sexist, ignorant, and all around offensive, and it's sorta fascinating!

This show is not just bad. This was supposed to be a show for modern people, city folks, up and comers. A re-imagining of 80s yuppie life that was supposed to really hit home in the early 90s. The show was actually a subject of controversy! Heavens, no, a single woman who has sex!? The whole thing is overt sexism posing as enlightenment. Then there's the black friend, who has the "nasty touch" (actual quote). Imagine one of the Huxtable daughters being impersonated by Michael Scott, Steve Carell's character from The Office, but it's not supposed to be funny. It's as though someone wanted very badly to show a "post-prejudice" world, but couldn't possibly imagine what that would look like, so they doubled down on every stereo-type they've ever heard.

Now, then. Business!

This Friday we're playing a show in Kearny, NJ at the Irish! It's a big 'un, up first are our friends EULA from CT, a riotous spaz punk trio that I've been digging hard, and who've just put out a new release, Maurice Narcisse, which I highly recommend. Yours truly is on second, and we have a couple brand new numbers to show off. It's been a good while since we played the Irish, so I'm really excited about it, always a rowdy crowd there. On third are my favorite hardcore leftists, No Pasaran!, our label mates on Killing Horse Records, who will be putting out a new 7" soon. And the headliner, likely needing no introduction at all, are our old friends Screaming Females. Going to be quite a night, tickets are available in advance!

FRI MAY 6, 8pm
