Service Contract Device Protection Plan: provides coverage for hardware service issues (mechanical breakdown), JUMP! Upgrades, unlimited screen protector replacements, tech support, and McAfee Security for T-Mobile.

Discount for both plans: if you buy both the Insurance Device Protection Plan and the Service Contract Device Protection Plan, you'll get a discount of up to $1.50 on the Insurance Device Protection Plan, depending on the device tier.

If the device was bought from another provider: to enroll in the Insurance Device Protection Plan and receive the same discount, visit a T-Mobile store or contact us within 30 days of enrollment. You must show proof of service contract.

You can add Protection while making a qualified T-Mobile device activation and/or purchase and lease or finance a new device. We recommend protecting your phone or device at the time of purchase, but if you prefer to add Protection afterward, it must be within 30 days of your transaction. The device will need to pass a visual and mechanical inspection in a T-Mobile store. Adding Protection is optional and may be canceled at any time. Protection is not available for prepaid customers. In New York, other plans are available.

The service fee/deductible is based on your device model and the type of claim, which will be collected at the time your claim is approved. For complete plan details, including benefits, exclusions, deductibles, limits, and disclosures, visit:

If your Apple device is eligible for AppleCare Services, this service is available during the first 24 months from the date you enroll in Protection and as long as your plan coverage remains uninterrupted.

If you purchase an eligible screen protector from T-Mobile on the same day you enroll in Protection or after, you can get it replaced in-store at no additional cost. Liquid glass screen protectors are excluded.

For loss/theft claims, you may need to call T-Mobile to suspend service. You may be required to disable the Find My phone feature prior to making a claim and before sending back a claimed device. Remember to file a claim within the timeframe indicated in your coverage documents.

Once a claim is approved, your replacement device will be shipped overnight, at no charge where available, for delivery within one to two business days. Claim approvals may take up to several days depending on the type of claim and timely receipt of all needed documentation. Holidays may impact shipping times. For more information, visit mytmoclaim.com and scroll down to see "When to expect your replacement device."

Once your claim is approved, a service fee/deductible based on your device tier and the type of claim plus tax, if applicable, will be collected from you by credit card, debit card, or eCheck. Visit or details.

For accidental damage (all other) and loss or theft, the program allows you up to three covered claims within a rolling 12-month period based on the date of first repair/replacement. Maximum coverage per claim is the purchase price or replacement value of the covered device (whichever is lower) less any applicable service fee.

First off, nearly all of these plans available from your carrier or retailer would cover accidental damage (such as cracked screens or liquid damage), while renters insurance does not.

Renters insurance is typically more affordable than phone protection plans offered by retailers or carriers. While the price of Lemonade renters insurance start at $5/mo, mobile carrier insurance starts at $9/mo, and retailer-provided insurance starts at $11/mo. That said, to protect yourself against many possible phone-related accidents and snafus, you might want to carry both types of insurance.

In addition to renters insurance and specific device protection plans offered by your carrier or retailer, most manufacturers also provide a phone warranty that covers mechanical or electrical problems with your phone.

If you buy a new smartphone with a two-year warranty, only to see it go kaput in six months through no fault of your own, you have the right to demand that your phone be repaired, replaced, or refunded.
