Here are the minimal requirements run wifit.py. If you know how to install packages on your platform, you should not have any trouble installing wifit. These links and photos below are for windows. Wifit has been tested on Ubuntu 12.04, Windows 7, and Windows 8.
This is the command wifite that can be run in the OnWorks free hosting provider using one of our multiple free online workstations such as Ubuntu Online, Fedora Online, Windows online emulator or MAC OS online emulator
OnWorks is a free online VPS hosting provider that gives cloud services like free workstations, online AntiVirus, free VPN secure proxies, and free personal and business email. Our free VPS can be based on CentOS, Fedora, Ubuntu and Debian. Some of them are customized to be like Windows online or MacOS online.
While checking what kind of packages are available to install on the subsystem, I noticed that tools like aircrack-ng, wifite, reaver ... are available. However, ifconfig doesn't work, and iwconfig shows something like:
I understand that this might be because WSL translates each individual syscall to its Windows variant instead of running a full linux system. So, my question is: in that case, can we do any wireless network penetration testing with the previously mentioned tools? If not, why are those packages available in the first place?
replace wlp3s0mon with your wifi adapter name. Mine gets renamed from wlp3s0 to wlp3s0mon so I use that (this is when running wifite2).I even put the two commands into a bash script so I can double-click on it. It'll ask for root password, do its thing, and close the terminal.
Ok so I got a TL-WN722N USB adapter and judging by it's FCC ID it is hardware V1. I'm running Windows 10 Pro x64. The wifi adapter works without issue when working most tasks like internet browsing with Firefox. But if I open up Microsoft Edge something weird happens: the light on the usb adapter stops working, internet connection goes out immediately and in a few seconds the tray icon shows im disconnected and it can no longer find any wifi in range. If i open network connections in windows (ncpa.cpl) it shows the device as connected (same in Device Manager). The only way to restore functionality is to either physically disconnect and reconnect the device, disabling and re-enabling the adapter in ncpa.cpl or resetting the USB hub in Device Manager...
I have tried disabling selective suspend in power plan properties (both the wifi and usb entries) and in device manager advanced tab. I tried flushing all internet caches, switching to Google's public DNS and resetting all Windows network settings. It doesn't depend on which Wifi network I'm connected to or which version of the driver I'm using (of the 2 versions offered for my model).
The only thing I can say for certain is that it's linked either to the adapter itself or it's driver since using a different wifi adapter produces no problems. This bug occurs only on certain programs running and while I have no problem for it to happen with Microsoft Edge which I don't use, Blizzard's Battle.net and their games are something I definitely use but they also crash the connection.
I know that Hyper-V does not support creating a virtual switch together with the wireless network adapter. One previous question here on serverfault asked almost the same question, and that question answered that you could use internet connection sharing. I tried that, and it creates a new subnet from which my Hyper-V clients can access internet.
Windows Server 2012 DOES support wireless network adapters associated with virtual network switches in Hyper-V. When creating your virtual switch, select External as the type and select your wireless adapter from the drop down list. If this is the only network adapter in your physical server, you will also want to check the box for "allow management operating system to share this network adapter".
In Hyper-V Manager, go to Action -> Virtual Switch Manager (make sure no machines are selected in the main window or you'll have machine-specific options in the Actions menu and the Virtual Switch Manager option won't be available)
Another option you can use to enable the wireless card is the same thing you had to do in 2008 or 2008 R2 to enable the use of the wireless card on hyper-v. You can bridge the network. There is a step-by-step guide that shows how to do this at -windows-server-2008-r2-lab-environment-hands-on-guide/ It is a bit of a drawn out process but it is pretty simple. Start following the instructions at Step #9.
