Sema and Poetry Gathering - Open to all and no experience needed (Donation Base)
Learn Sema-Sufi whirling meditation, both personal and spiritual, as well as other turning practices, while listening to sacred poetry and music. In the first part of the gathering we will learn and discuss mystical Persian poetry and teachings of Rumi and Shams, as well as Hafez, Saadi, Omar Khayyam, and other Sufi masters and learn to incorporate movements to their poems (Poetry in Motion). We will also learn music meditation and music healing while listening to natural sounds around us such as water, wind, fire or various live instruments.
February 3rd we will have Live Music hosted by Ali Bazyar who will lead us into Zikr.
Sema Gatherings will have guest speakers, poets, musicians and dancers of sacred and mystical teaching to our monthly events.
** Please note that Sema Gatherings are FREE and open to all. However, *Sliding scale donation of $5-$20 are greatly appreciated to help cover the cost.
** Please wear white or light colored clothing and wear socks or soft soled shoes. Feel free to bring a poem or a story to share or play live music for us.

Farima Dance and Acyan Yeter present: Dances of the Black Sea!
Special workshop with the amazing performer and instructor, Aycan Yeter, from Turkey! Aycan will be teaching intensive dances/choreography from the Black Sea region, February 3rd, and 17th only!
The dances will be showcased in our future performances with Farima and Aycan, as well as in our annual Persian New Year Celebration.
All are welcome and participation in the workshop are eligible to perform.
**Performers must take full workshop series and technique classes.

Aycan Yeter is one of the well known tulum musicians in Turkey. He was born in Istanbul raised by his Laz family, from North Eastern shores of the Black Sea, coast of Turkey. He graduated from University of Eskisehir with business major. At a young age, Aycan started music with drums and continued with Tulum. Aycan took classes from well known Tulum virtuoso Selim Bolukbasi and has also been teaching Laz-Horon dances. He has took the role as a tulum player in films, TV, and has played for many ethnic singers and dance groups. He has a collection of folk songs, which are his own compositions.
