You might also contact Alanna Teragawa in Minneapolis.  I don’t think I have a current email address for her.  When I did the workshop in MN in 08, she made quite a few of the $10 pcb pipe stands from STEP.  I don’t know if she still has them.

Also, I could send someone the email addresses of those in MN and WI who have emailed me about bell tree questions over the years.  Many of them may have bell tree stands by now.

But I won’t get to it until the end of January.  My husband has surprised me with an anniversary trip so I’ll be gone from this list for a while.

Why don't we start a list of bell tree ringers interested in joining the
group? Then we can add whether we have a bell tree that we can bring or if
we need to have one supplied. I have my own with 4 arms that I can bring.
If you have enough to supply them and I wouldn't have to worry about
having to bring mine, that would be great. Then we will know how many we
need to find.

Yes, Area 7 still has a bunch of PVC pipe bell trees in their storage that can be borrowed. You will need one sturdy music stand per bell tree stand, as its base.

Would, I assume you mean pvc, actually be strong enough to hold the bells?  We use gas (steel) pipes - off the shelf at Home Depot type place.

The PVC pipe bell tree stands scare me... don't feel sturdy enough, to me, considering how much the bells cost. At the Area 7 workshop at St. Olaf, my fellow ringers and I took turns playing and whoever wasn't playing was holding the PVC pipe "arms", just in case. Nothing ever actually *happened*, but still.

I think you will find there are plenty of bell tree stands available in Area 7I and we will not need to even think about using the PVC pipe stands. St Olaf was a long time ago and many of us who attended that class have since purchased or had stands built that are much better than the PVC version.

Fast forward to when so many of us (Area 7) joined Barb Brocker on stage for a bell tree piece at Festival a 3-4 years ago. We had at least 8 stands on stage then and I know more have been purchased since then.

As long as everyone is willing to bring their equipment, Area VII should be in good shape for a bell tree class and mini concert

Yep I agree, I'm sure you'll be able to gather enough stands from within Area 7. I was just responding to Merry's question of if the PVC would be strong enough.

Hi Megan,
I'm glad to see so much being done in Area VII. When you folks choose a number, would you please let me know what it is. I'd like to "pull" some such thing in Area V sometime, or, within just our Dayton, OH area. Thanks. Dave Pinkerton

Oh, I'm not in Area 7, I'm in Area 11 (Colorado). But I was in Area 7 for quite a while, and I think what they're brewing up sounds great! I, too, hope they'll let us all know when they decide what to do.

Another NEW Bell Tree in Area 7!! I just assembled a brand new Tree for St Andrew in Eden Prairie. I think we will be able to have enough store-bought Bell Trees in Area 7.

I'm back in the country and doing a little research on what song to choose.  I like the idea of Sakura, but would like a piece that people could start practicing now.

I watched the video of "My Country Tis of Thee" and I think that would be a good choice. I think we can find a flute to play with us and that would be great.

Any one else have any other thoughts?  I read about "This Little Light" and the other one. I like that "My Country" can be as difficult or easy as you want it to be.

If you have any thoughts about song selection, now is the time to speak up in an email, all you lurkers!

Jennifer Cadwell will be at Area VII with Bells of the Lakes and she plays flute.  If we decide to go with this piece, I ring with her in BOTL and could ask her.

I will have one bell tree stand with Bells of the Lakes, Concordia University St. Paul also has a bell tree stand that I could ask if we could also borrow if another one was needed.

Hi Krista,

Would you ask Jennifer if she would be willing to play flute on My Country Tis of Thee with a bunch of bell trees?

Thanks,

I can ask.  Also, Jill Mahr from St. Olaf would be an excellent choice for flute as she played that flute part at National when it was in Minneapolis in 2011.

I can ask her if that works for you all?
