Notice
AT&T takes its obligation to protect its customers from child
pornography very seriously. We're working with public officials and
the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the effort
to help prevent the distribution of this harmful and illegal content.

We'll continue to provide access to newsgroups as part of our
broadband offering, but we'll no longer include alt.bin* nor alt.bain*
hierarchies because of the possibility of child pornography in those
particular groups and the difficulty in ensuring that no child porn
reappears in them.

Our customers will continue to have full access to all lawful content
on the Internet. That includes newsgroups, which are available from
multiple sources, not just ISPs.

Customers may still access lawful content of their choosing from
unaffiliated newsgroup providers. (Hogwash for "Go get a different
news provider")

I am moving to cable if I'm going to have to pay extra for a news
server. I'd have stayed with them except their news servers went south
long ago. They had the decency not to blame child porn for it. Today I
signed up to APN, Monday Cable. To think I was about to get the all in
one package with them. Counting the minutes.

All-in-one is not really good for anyone wishing to actually use the
services. At least, not with AT$T($ intentional). I have had Verizon
for about 5 years beyond the original 2 year contract, could care less
for the new phone with a new contract garbage, so. However, several
folks I know jumped on the all -in-one for the cheap cell service.

Remember that old "you get what you pay for" statement? Well, get
ready with your AT$T cell service to not get a lot of things "More
signal in more places" ain't quite true. They have told me that they
had signal, and it simply disappeared. That happens when one moves,
but with AT$T, you don't even have to move to lose it.

I think I'll check the cost for cell everything, and with Verizon as
home phone service, ISP, and NEWS servers. Comcast is saying that they
are going to have digital phone service soon in our area. If that
happens, there goes any reason to stay with AT$T. However, Comcast
gives you 2 Gigs of use free per month on Giganews, more than that is
a subscription to Giganews.

Agreed, I've always kept the standard phone service for a number to
give people who tend to harrass you on the phone. I don't answer it I
use it for outgoing calls only. I keep cell service for people I want
to be able to contact me. Comcast used to be great for newsgroups and
service but they tend to be down more and tech support was someone in
a foreign country. It took two weeks to get my own modem added and
when it was first installed after two hours trying to set it up I
tossed them out of my house and installed it myself in a half hour.

When they cut newsgroups to 2 gig, (UP AND DOWN counted) I switched to
BellSouth. Retention sucked but no limits. During that time third
party news services were going through the roof. News services have
stabilized now close to earlier pricing.

>Remember that old "you get what you pay for" statement?"

Gramps used to say, you don't always get what you pay for, but you
NEVER get MORE than you pay for.

I haven't swapped ISPs yet I have to change some mail addresses. I've
decided to get my mail service from a source that doesn't have to
change when I change providers. Actually I've had that mail for some
time but didn't use it as my primary.
