Hello, we are still meeting weekly Fridays (and today included) at the Foundry 1515 N Forest St. from 6:30-9:00 PM.

Come to show and tell about projects being worked on by members. At least myself will be there and can go into as much detail as required about my adventures trying to install a new development environment customized, with the Nix package manager running on Linux From Scratch.

We updated the website recently to list the correct meeting place. We will also take time today to launch a new improved wiki.

A hackerspace is to a makerspace like free software is to open source. Open source is about making software efficiently and makerspaces are about building things not just software. Free software emphasizes the philosophical reason WHY the license is chosen, for freedom. Similarly hacking is about ensuring freedom in technology, something a makerspace isn't opposed to but is not the main focus. Hackers create community around projects because that project has an impact and is the right thing to do.

Current possible group projects based on interests of attendees:
+ mesh networking
+ NAND 2 Tetris building a computer from first principles
+ open hardware and electronics
+ privacy and crypto

Also up for discussion is the option of as a group taking over regular operation of the snack vending machine currently at the Foundry as it needs attention to make it more useful.

This is still an informal group as a corp charter was voted on over 1 year ago and no regular attendance occurred to necessitate completing the formal org. I am not charging the group 100/month any more, since Foundry membership is lower than Big Idea Lab was, but still have a savings acct for the unofficial club. Martin has paid me a little to offset my Foundry membership so at this point any new donations will go directly to savings.

Happy hacking!

Hi all,

Moved to town in September. Looking forward to coming to a meeting. I'm
a freelance web programmer.

May is going to be a very busy month because we're buying a house and
moving! I'll try to make it to a meeting in June. Friday nights are a
rough time for me in general though.

All the best,

..Josh..
