I haven't posted here in a while. If there is room I'll be there too. I haven't worked on any projects for 2 years. Finishing my degree was a priority, but now I have way too much free time. The only 2 things I planned right now are a touchscreen table and a laptop to tear down and install permanently in my dashboard. Unlike most of you I have no programming experience. However I am an electrician. While I don't have any makerbots or CNC routers, all of which I do want, I do have lots of electrical tools.

There's room for 10 - 12. I count 6 coming, so there's lots of room
for more.

I'll be there.

I've got some new IR LEDs on the way, too, which I'm eager to
experiment with. We'll get that whiteboard project going one way or
another.

I missed the meeting since I was ~2800 miles away, but I found a place in Sudden Valley and should be moved in by the end of the month....so I will be able to make the next meeting.

Words of a new member moving in from thousands of miles away... Welcome! Anything we can do to make your move a more pleasant one? Just yell, and you'll be heard...  :  )

Hi guys

John, welcome to our "city of subdued excitement". Watch out for mold. Or, check out the (excellent) mushroom show this Sunday:

Also:

I heard a fragment on NPR which clued me in to an idea (Betahaus, in Berlin) which might have some relevance for our group going forward. The (possibly large) target participant group is distinct from ours since our focus necessarily involves hardware, but I think there is appreciable overlap which might point the way to a commercial venture in which we could usefully participate.

I googled betahaus and this was one site I liked:

This seems to be an example of an overall concept called co-working. Like Eric Ries' "Lean Startup" this might be something the rest of you are already familiar with, and that as a digital immigrant I'm only now catching up on....personally I really like the idea because it's such a bottom-up approach to real economic activity.

(Their San Francisco page is particularly impressive):

Yeah, the "co-working" concept has already made it here.

The BIG (Bellingham Innovation Group) Idea Lab downtown is exactly
that, and a bunch of web designers and small startups are working in
the space. I know you can get in touch with Adrian Pike if you want to
know more.
