Important 2012 TAG Announcements
For over a decade, TAG has been helping foster and connect our local technology community. During this time, we have seen local technology companies thrive and grow despite challenging worldwide economic conditions. We believe the accelerated growth of additional technology jobs and businesses is necessary and critical for our community and our local economy.
We’ve spent the last two years carefully planning, researching and working with leaders from our industry, the city, the county, the port, economic development organizations, and our higher education institutions. TAG is now ready to undertake a bold commitment to accelerate the growth of technology businesses in our area, and to that end will be re-focusing our efforts in the following areas:
First, we will recruit more high-technology employees and make Whatcom County a known and desired place to build a technology-related career. Accordingly, TAG will be spearheading a coordinated effort to put our businesses and this great place at the top of job seekers’ lists.
Second, we will work even more deliberately to systematically connect our technology business leaders to each other and to the research and educational institutions, so as to facilitate the sharing of best practices and the creation of partnership opportunities.
Third, TAG members and friends know and love the event series, which include the monthly lunches, predictions program, job fair, and tech stomp educational fundraiser. These great events will continue and will get even better as part of our commitment to inform and provide networking opportunities to those interested in and working in technology-oriented fields.
Last, we will build upon the first two efforts to position and promote Whatcom County as a can’t miss place for new and existing technology businesses because of its connected community of leaders, its access to local partnerships, and its pool of motivated and skilled talent.
We exist to grow the technology industry for the benefit of our existing members and for the community at large. Our activities should, and will, result in the retention of existing firms, growth opportunities for those firms, and the recruiting of new firms. We accomplish these goals by working collaboratively with many partners in both the private and public sectors.
These bold commitments come with leadership transitions as TAG seeks a new Executive Director for 2012 and beyond. “For the last five years, Anna Ehnmark has effectively collaborated with TAG’s community partners, has orchestrated informative, fun and well-attended events, and has developed foundational research about our technology community” says Board Chairman Paul Grey. “It is with sadness and appreciation that TAG announces that Anna has elected to leave TAG to pursue other career opportunities.” “TAG has been a wonderful learning and growth experience for me over the last 5 years. I fully believe in and support the new goals and strategies that TAG has outlined. I am looking forward to what the future holds for both of us” says Anna.
The TAG Board is currently hard at work identifying and conducting interviews for a new leader who is an exceptional collaborator, has a track record of achieving outstanding results and, most importantly, is a strong advocate for growing and strengthening our technology community. If you are, or know this person, please contact TAG and help us identify our technology community’s next connector at: jo...@tagnw.org. You can view the job description and submit applications here.
