Raj Ussher has offered to provide a workshop at his property in
Bellingen for those who want to learn the art of making the Sawdust
brick that he talked about at the July Forum.

Raj has built his home with these Sawdust bricks after developing the
technique and finding the result to be far superior to any other mud-
type brick he has worked with.

The workshop must take place over two sessions 24 hours apart to
allow the bricks to dry, hence it will be held on the 27th and 28th of
November from 9-11am on each day.

The cost is $10 per person .

Raj will supply raw materials.

Please wear working clothes, gloves, strong shoes and hats.

Please DO NOT bring children as this will be held on a building
site.

To book a place, please phone Raj on 6655-0405.

Hey Gull,

These workshops just keep getting better and better. I would love to come along but am in Perth presently about to construct around 300 eco friendly mining dongers for up North. Great to see all is well with us sustainable builders and look forward to hearing how the workshops and meetings go.

Regards from the west.

Paul

Hi Gull,

Paul Detheridge here mate. I've just returned from Perth where I have been building ICF houses for the last 9 months. Looking at building one in bello. would love to catch up if you are still having the sustainable building workshops. We've also been looking at panels made from compressed hemp, and all sorts of replacements for concrete. Anyway mate, its great to be back. Let me know if you have any meetings planned, I'd love to attend.

Regards,

Paul

I am interested in compressed hemp as a building material.  Would like more info on this.

Good morning, Paul...all jazzed out here.  Just to update..we have had no meetings since this time last year.  but it might be time to rekindle the flame.  The energy festival is coming up in two weeks and we may have some things on display depending on who has time and inclination.  I do know that Gull has been very busy singing lately.  Our next transition meeting is on tuesday 30 August and perhaps we could begin the conversation about resuming the susbldg work...Our last thoughts were to take the meetings "on site"  either to homes or to locations where homes are planned.
that was all we wrote...do you have any time and interest in making this happen?  Cheers, Vicki

Hi Nakia,

I am also interested in building with hemp, and have booked myself in to go to a hemp masonry construction workshop up near nimbin. 15 places available, and it runs over Sat 8th and Sun 9th Oct. Can send through information if you, or anyone else is interested.

warm regards,

Alison

Hi Vicki,

Glad you enjoyed the jazzfest, it was'nt that wet was it. At least compared to previous years! I'm looking presently at a few blocks with intentions of building out of ICF (Insulated concrete forms) and anything else that looks practical at the time. I want to include solar, tanks, vegies and fruit trees etc.etc. With the government constantly changing its mind on alternative energy systems alot of people seem to have lost interest and put it in the "too hard" basket. My thoughts are to provide complete sustainable homes instead of the brick and tile disasters. I may be away next week but if not would love to attend the transition meeting. I think the idea of having a meeting on site is great. Will speak again soon.

Regards,

Paul

Hi everyone

Last year i went to a hemp building workshop in byron , showing how you can grow your own hemp in 3-4 months ,dry it ,mulch it ,mix it with limey cement binder and then stuff your walls with it.This method has great potential but when it comes to cost and time which when you are building are of equal value ,i think Raj's sawdust bricks are a better option. You can source nearly all of the materials locally while spending alot less money .
Sorry i don't have the time right now to go into more detail.
Happy building

Hi Vicki,

Just wondering if the sawdust workshop was still going ahead. Would love to participate. If you have any further details please let me know. I'm still pretty flat chat building the ICF houses around Oz and would love to build one in Bello soon. Hope all is well in your world.

Paul

Hi Paul
Saw your email to Vicki. It might be best if you give Raj Ussher a call directly at 6655 0405 about sawdust brick making. He was the person who ran the workshop last year and we haven't planned any more workshops with him to date.
And when you're back in Bello, come to a Transition meeting and let us know what you're up to.
All the best
Fiona

Hi Fiona,

Thanks for the feedback regarding the sawdust brick making. I'd love to come to a transition meeting when possible. Keep up the good work.

Bumper crops,

Paul
