a few things...
it's one experienced player on the pitch at any time.... so you could
have more than one experienced player in your team but they just can't
be on the pitch at the same time.
4 beginners and 1 experienced player is what we're aiming for
initially. If people are really struggling to get that ratio, then it
can be changed but I think it's best to start from there.
At the end of the day I'm not (and nobody else is) going around
checking everybody's elligibility. All I want is for people to
honestly try and get new people players involved. It's down to the
integrity of the teams and their captains whether they stick to the
ratio..... if teams can't, then let me know and i'll see if it can be
changed with all the other teams.
Hopefully everybody appreciates the difference in circumstances
between those who go to uni and those who don't so don't feel that 6
months is a hard-and-fast rule. It's something to bear in mind - for
example, if they have been playing for more than 6 months, is this
player better than someone I would expect to have played for just 6
months? and have they played in a beginner tournament before? if the
answer is no to both, then i can't see any reason why they can't take
part. If they've played for less than 6 months, they're definitely
in.
last point.... for me teams such as the LDW, CHASE, Swerve and maybe
even Deep Heat are possibly more established than what's needed for
this tournament. So it's fine for the LDW not to be at a beginner
tournament as they've already outgrown it - the tournament obviously
can be used to recruit to those teams. Hence why i'm suggesting
another 7-a-side tournament for those bigger outfits.
On that point.... there used to be a game called the Not Boxing Day
Game on the 27th Dec up here where we would invite people from the
south to take part. We could restart this tradition and play the
small 7-a-side tournament on that day rather than Sunday 21st. The
LDW, CHASE, Swerve, maybe Deep Heat and a southern team could have a
little 7-a-side competition. It's free so there's not a lot to be
lost. Just one thing, I won't be there so it will have to be
organised by someone else.
