Summer League starts this Tuesday at 7pm, and we're in Ormeau Park. So
don't be turning up at Stranmillis Embankment. Team captains, can you
make sure your team knows this.

Teams Entered into Summer League (so far)
* Deep Heat
* Ultra Mega Super Magic Sparkle Angelfish Go! 3: EX Plus Alpha (Late
starters, Angelfish won't be playing until 21st July)
* CHASE (Have registered with an apparently deceptive 25 players!)
* LDW
* The Swerve
The rumour mill is that Kebab Hammer also have a team, or that Kebab
Hammer and The Swerve have joined to form 'Kebab Swerve', which
apparently The Swerve don't know about. Can somebody clear this up
ASAP.

I'm holding registration open until mid July to allow for any later
entrants (They'll have to play 2 games a week, where as everyone else
will usually only have to play 1, but that's ok.)

It turns out marmalade is much more popular than marmite.

Schedule
Games will take place on Tuesday evenings. There will be a break for
the 12th holidays (probably just 14th July). Games will then resume on
21st July.
The following teams are playing this Tuesday
16th June, 7pm
Deep Heat vs CHASE
LDW vs Kebab Hammer

Teamless players
If you don't have a team for Summer League yet, don't worry. Just turn
up and we'll get you on a team. There are a number of teams who need a
few more players.

Remember, we're at Ormeau Park! Teams playing this Tuesday are; Deep
Heat, CHASE, LDW, Kebab Hammer.

See you there

I get back to Belfast on the 21st of July. Unfortunately I don't think
I'm going to be able to hold down a SCRUFF team for the whole other
half of the summer because a lot of my players are all over the place,
including me. However, I'm sure the lads want a run out at some point,
so will probably be up for a couple of mid week friendlies; possibly
against the team that isn't playing that week or for those teams who
have had less experience playing together than others.

Question to anyone who has the authority to answer....

Can Kebab Hammer play as Kebab Swerve until either team gathers enough
players to split? or what?

Ob is the boss of this league. I'll give you his number if you need
it?

I don't think team splits are ideal. Think of how it affects the
League's continuity. If it was up to me, I'd say either amalgemate for
the whole league (boo!) or wait until you have enough players to field
each team. In the registration form, the 'weeks in which you're unable
to field a team' section allows Ob to schedule your team a bye for
weeks that don't suit. Hopefully this has been filled in correctly?

Please note that Ob is in charge, and probably has a very different
way of handling your situation.

i have to get some things off my chest. i'm going to say sorry now if
i cause offence..... i'm being very critical so feel free to lambast
me.

personally i feel this is a shambles......

..... for me the league should be the biggest asset for ultimate in
the north. it offers local opportunities for new people to play
locally. and personally... i don't know if this could be organised
any worse.

where's the captain pack? where's the schedule? are we having a bbq
tomorrow? what about a party at the end? what organising has been
done... if any?

i'm not sure any of those things take a lot of time to organise. but
why aren't we told about them? Why isn't it advertised... even just
on britdisc, pookas, facebook, twitter, the google group? i know the
schedule will be difficult to arrange but surely it's better if people
enter their teams, a schedule devised and then teams can say yes or no
to the planned fixtures which then can be rearranged.

there just doesn't seem to be any pride or confidence in the league.

..... and i don't think Deep Heat will be out tomorrow.... am I
bothered? not in the slightest. that in itself is an indictment!!!
possibly on myself but also my confidence in the league. do i want
new players to go along tomorrow? honestly no, not really.

i'll definitely be out tomorrow just not playing (due to injury).

I think part of the problem has been the uncertainty of who could put
together a team, and in my opinion it's a lack of pride in teams not the
league. Everyone knew the summer league was coming, and I kinda hoped people
would have been working hard all year to make their team the best it could
be. I understand everyone has some commitments and Frisbee doesn't always
come top but that's why everyone should be pushing for new players so if you
can't make it you've got enough people to cover for you and field a team.
Your team won't organise itself, everyone needs to work hard to keep pushing
and keep improving.

i think that's probably right....

there's definitely a chicken / egg scenario. both ob (tournament td)
and the captains are looking to each other to take a confident lead
but neither are.

i'm just frustrated. the league for me is the highlight of the local
calendar. and i just don't get the sense that it's all that
important. i really hope that i'm wrong.

Let's start showing some enthusiasm now then. We'll be out in force (in July). When is Super Saturday? Let's advertise the hell out of that so we can have something to look forward to at the end of the summer.

Windy had mentioned a while back about having super saturday at ards rugby club. That way we will be able to have bbq, drinks, prize ceromony etc and make a proper day of it. If Ob has no objections I reckon we should get this sorted ASAP, and like Phil has said, advertise the hell out of it and have something to look forward to at the end of the league.

To be fair, I think the Summer League kicked off pretty solidly. Well
played Deep Heat. Not the shut-out we were hoping for. Let's keep this
up guys.
