Hi,

I've been learning Ruby for a short while and been to Belfast Ruby a few times. I don't work in a role that involves Ruby programming. I'd like to have a Ruby job eventually but in the mean time can anyone recommend ways, groups, hack nights where I could get to know a few other Ruby guys to get know other devs and learn more.

Johnny.

Would you be interested in working with other people in Ruby, outside of work on a project or something like that? Are you wanting to get to know experts or other learners?

I attended the group for the first time this month, but intend to go to them from now on. Hopefully will see you there and get a chat, as it seems you are in a similar situation to me in that you don't know any other Ruby programmers ;) Sometimes it's good to have a person to bounce your programming ideas off!

All the best,

Kevin McCaughey

Hi Jonathan,

Belfast Ruby is probably your best bet.  Worth coming along regularly if you can - it's where most of the Ruby Devs in Belfast meet up and occasional hack nights happen.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I think working with others, especially other learners would be a good thing. I was wondering if anyone knew of events or hack nights happening that I could get involved in. Belfast Ruby is good, would be good to have a chat there. I've been down a few times, I like the community its  a friendly one but when your job doesn't actually involve Ruby its hard to get in the loop or get up to speed. Your right it would be good to have someone to bounce ideas of etc.

Johnny.

There's a few of us Belfast Rubyists idling in ##belfast on freenode IRC which you might find useful.
