Hey guys,

I have been meaning to go to the BLUG meet ups on and off for over a year and find it hard to notice them in meetups website also with the sporadic dates.

Is there appetite in restoring the old meetups in the pub on the last Wednesday of every month like we used to? Possibly even in the old tap house again, I will confirm the location if people show interest.

Thanks

Same here.  I'd try to attend if it becomes more predictable thing again.  Taphouse on the last wed should work for me :)

Thanks for the feedback! The main problem we have had is that picking a regular day, given the chaotic meetup calendar each month, meant we would lose more people to clashes than we could bring in from being predictable, sadly.

However, I think the volume of competing events has been down a bit since that peak, so we could give it a try - keen to get willix's thoughts?

Last year, we did a theme of Second Attempt Demos from NIDC (so a couple FLOSS tech demos that didn't work at NIDC got an informal retry) - the feedback on that was fairly positive, so was going to suggest that again, perhaps for Wed 26th, as the last Wed?

With best wishes
Phil

I don't think there's a reason both can't co-exist. While the fact
you've managed a substantial run of monthly BLUG events is great I also
find it difficult to attend as much as I'd like, especially with the
sometimes short notice. I can't promise I'd make a monthly social pub
meet all the time, but I'd certainly try to attend.

On the other hand you can always check what BLUG events are planned at
https://www.meetup.com/belfast-lug/events/ to avoid wading through all
of the local Meetups. Perhaps a mail here when an event is schedule
would help as well?

That's a good idea, I'll try to send an email here when I see we have a date.

(I can't do Wednesdays or Thursday evenings in May June July or August so am against some of the other ideas above)

Phil W. - I think you are doing a great job as a volunteer and I hate to ask you to do more work but could you possibly also:

Check with a representative subset of BLUGers before picking a day of the week?

Highlight the fortnightly 'open industry' pub meet to this list?  Its one of the best local opportunities to talk about open source / libre software and is hard to find.

Would be great to meet some of the people I've only interacted with on this list in person

Thanks Keith - that's would helpful. We used to do a regular digest to
keep events and channel discussion visible on this list, but we didn't
see much engagement (either list traffic or IRL) for the overhead, so
it was unclear if that was helping :S

Sounds sensible - might be helpful if a few other people put their
timing constraints here?

Good point - there is a fortnightly Friday social, being mostly BLUG
and Farset people, in the Marcus Ward, with a free & open source lean
- not sure if that's maybe something worth tying in more explicitly?

With best wishes,
Phil
