Dear Ken,

I'm writing to urge you to attend one of the public meetings being held on Tuesday, May 23rd, in either Searsport or Bucksport, that could affect biking and walking in your community. This meeting is hosted by the Maine Department of Transportation, the DOT.

Searsport: 6PM, Searsport Town Hall, 1 Union St.

Bucksport: 6PM, Bucksport Town Office, 50 Maine St.

The Searsport meeting is being held to discuss a highway rehabilitation project to Rt 1 that will begin at Savage Road and extend northeasterly 1.85 miles to Station Avenue.

The Bucksport meeting is being held to discuss improvements to the Dr. Ed Thegen
Memorial Bridge which carries Rt. 1 over the East Channel of the Penobscot River on the Bucksport-Verona town line.

Public meetings hosted by the DOT are a great opportunity for those that support bicycle and pedestrian projects and policies to voice their concerns and promote the importance of improving conditions for biking and walking in state and/or local road projects. By attending, you'll be able to support accommodations for bikers and walkers that may already be included in the plans for this project, or let the DOT know that you think the plans should be improved for road users who are not car drivers. The DOT seeks local public input on transportation projects before they begin work, but often they do not see much participation from the local community. Your attendance can make a real difference!

I encourage you to attend the meeting and spread the word to others who may be available to help ensure that bicycle and pedestrian issues are part of the conversation when it comes to transportation projects in your community.

Thank You!
