Cyclists Represent Huge Potential Market For Maine Businesses
Bicycle tourism is big business - a recent report from the Pew Charitable Trust described bicycle tourists as, "wallets on wheels" - and the numbers are growing in Maine.

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine's Bicycles WelcoME training and certification program can help Maine businesses capture a larger share of this burgeoning market, whether it's locals on a lunch ride or visitors on a vacation tour.

The program helps businesses position themselves as cycling-friendly by identifying ways to provide services that cyclists need, whether it's water, bathrooms, or information about the area. This training is designed specifically for Maine businesses, and we encourage all our Coalition business members to participate.

The Coalition is offering two Bicycles WelcoME training sessions on July 18:
  • Kingfield: 9am, Rolling Fatties, 268 Main St.
  • Skowhegan: 3:30pm, Franklin Savings Bank, 194 Madison Ave.
The training is free. Register here.
Volunteer With BikeMaine!
BikeMaine is less than three months away, and Coalition staff and volunteers are working hard to get ready for this awesome ride! We're in need of some more helping hands leading up to, during, and after the BikeMaine ride. In particular, we'd love to find volunteers who can:
  • Join us for the whole week of BikeMaine, or even just a day or two of the ride!
  • Volunteer on Thursday, Sept. 14, while we're at Camp Wekeela in Hartford,
  • Help with marking the routes during the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 7 (along 2017 route),
  • Assist with rider packet assembly on Monday, Aug. 31, from 1-5pm (Portland),
  • Roll up their sleeves and help pack event trucks on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 7-8 (Portland),
  • Help unpack trucks on Monday, Sept. 18, from 11am-5pm (Portland),
  • Assist with drying out tents the week of Sept. 18-22.
If you can volunteer at any of these times or in these roles, please email Liz Hall to let her know how you'd like to help. Thank you in advance for helping with the success of BikeMaine 2017!
