{I'm trying to write something that will be sent out to students and
to other clubs and societies thats a bit shorter than the usual spiel.
Hows this? Responses as quickly as possible please because I'd like to
send this out at the end of the day.}

On Saturday the 23rd October, the Hackers invade The Space!
In association with QUESTS, DragonSlayers, and IETNI,
BelfastHackerspace will be running a series of events over 24 hours of
software, network, and hardware hackery goodness, as well as screening
hacker movies, DIY repair, and maybe, just maybe, how to build a
laser, along side DragonSlayers' 24 hour gaming event.
If you're interested in programming gaming, mobile or computer
applications, like to take things apart and see what happens if you
mess with hardware, or want to know more about some of the the
pitfalls of network and computer security (as well as how to prevent
them), come along and mess with a group of like minded people.
Admission is £5 to pay for security and utilities.

Sounds good to me, only minor criticism is that its essentially 2 very
long sentences with a lot of commas, another full stop in there might be
good ;)

I didn't realise the DragonSlayers gaming was going on at the same time,
thats pretty awesome actually. Its not all table-top gaming is it, haha :P

Are you intending in advertise the event to non "QUB students"?

Actually from what I can see its all electronic
http://www.dragonslayers.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1576

I know about the long sentences, but I am not a writer and can't think
of a better way of phrasing them. PLEASE correct me!! :D

If you have a point of contact I can send it to, yes, I really want
this as more or less a default snippit to spread all over; I'll be
sending it upstream to the main hackerspaces.org sites, aswell as to
the Irish Hackerspaces, etc etc etc.

I simply don't know anyone at UU or anywhere else that could spread
this in more than a 'friend to friend' fashion

Oh, one thing to note, due to the security restrictions relating to
being in a building with several bars; under 18's have to leave at
8pm, but I'm not sure if thats an issue for our target audience.

Couple of minor points:

1) 'Dragonslayers' should be referred to as so - only first letter
capitalised. Perhaps should be QUB Dragonslayers for context depending on
audience?

2) May want to elaborate on Slayers24 activities to increase the case for
attendance. For additional details see:
http://www.dragonslayers.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=105:first-slayers-24-event-of-term-23rd-24th-october-

We're all engineers of one sort or another here, none of us are good at
this language business.

Activites will include most areas of gaming; e.g. in addition to consoles
from event description:
.Warhammer 40k battles
.More board games than you can shake a really big stick at
.CCG freeplay
.RPG gaming

You can also post on HackNI (both the website and mailing list) as there's lots of non QUB people there who are interested in a Hackspace.

Outside of that; Blug, digital circle etc... anywhere to spread the word?

{I'm starting to worry that this is becoming too successful, and if
everyone shows up at once, we are going to be borked for space... I'll
talk to Niall about contingencies for if this happens}

New Draft:

On Saturday the 23rd October, the Hackers invade The Space!
In association with QUESTS, Dragonslayers, and IETNI,
BelfastHackerspace will be running a series of events over 24 hours
of
software, network, and hardware hackery goodness, as well as
screening
hacker movies, DIY repair, and maybe, just maybe, how to build a
laser. Running parallel to Dragonslayers' 24 hour gaming event, which
will incorporate console, PC, and tabletop games, attendees will be
able to both play and make games to their hearts content.

If you're interested in programming, like to take things apart and see
what happens if you
mess with hardware, or want to know more about some of the the
pitfalls of network and computer security (as well as how to prevent
them), come along and mess with a group of like minded people.

Admission is £5 to pay for security and utilities.

Oh, and instead of this back and forth over the wording, how about
anyone can screw around with the text in the first section of the wiki
(http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/HackathonBelfast) and we'll do a 'code
freeze' at the end of the evening and I'll have everything sent off.

This of course assumes that everyone is vaguely familiar with working
on a wiki, but its safer and easier to track than google docs.

Ok, advertised on both HackNI website and mailing list. What about newsgroups etc? I know there's worry about limited space, but any publicity is good publicity...

Thingy, do you want to put some links to the mailing lists etc onto
the hackerspaces.org wiki? I'd like to start using it a bit more ,
because the group is great for spitballing but nut exactly a great
after-the-fact resource.

Sorry, been swamped with coursework, but the PR on the hackerspaces site looks good.  Concise, succinct, and sounds interesting.  Ran it in front of some art-type people, linked to coffeehouseartclub.co.uk, and they're curious :)

All the best,
Glenn

(Corrected spelling of Ludum Dare, but that's nothing)

Ok, unless anyone makes any complaints in the next hour or so, I'm
sending whatever is on the hackerspaces.org wiki out.

Its done... Beginning of next week, relevant areas of QUB are going to
be blanketed with emails.

If anyone has any connections anywhere else this can be distributed,
don't hesitate to just send it out, but try and keep a record on here
as to where it goes.

Should have by now been released in:
SyncNI
The Coffee House Art Club
QUB EECS Student Mailer (Maybe an all student mail by accident, I'm
not sure, but either way, its good)
QUB Games Design Lectures
Digital Circle Mailing List (From earlier in the week)

Still in need of a connection to distribute at UU; I know its
technically being run at QUB, but that shouldn't stop UU'ers from
attending!
