Hey,

Anyone interested in doing a project which is essentially screen
scrapping the www.Eirgrid.com website to pull the real-time Wind
Generation and System Demand figures so that we can make some big
dials for the Power Lab in QUB?

The data appears to be available for download from the site. You
shouldn't need to scrape the site for it.

Aye, so then we'd need a method of downloading it periodically. The
thinking is to take the most current value and output it via sound
card to drive a large meter.

You can do most of the work with a nice one liner:

curl http://www.eirgrid.com/operations/systemperformancedata/windgeneration/ | egrep "tr>|td>|th>" | nawk -F"[<>]" '{print $3}'

I'm sure there's something else you can do to display it pretty but there's your raw data. Stick it in a cronjob and you're flying. A better quest would be who can do this in the minimum number of characters ;)
