We now have the the knowhow of getting and end to and workflow for
rpm5 for Belenix.
Here's what's in place:
rpm5.3.11 -> This provides us with rpm and rpmbuild
createrepo -> This let's us create a repository of rpm files which we
can install from.
smart -> The Smart Package Manager (GUI + Command Line) which is the
package manager of choice for Belenix.
Many thanks to Jeff Johnson (maintainer of rpm5), who has been most
patient during the learning efforts, and to Anders (one of the smart
package manager developers), who has been kind enough to understand my
problem statements and help out with tips.
There are some more things that need to be done:
1. Some cleanups for rpm5 in the packaging (I've screwed up with how I
use file's magic!)
2. Testing all this in a clean boot environment
3. A download bundle for those who wish to try this out themselves.
4. Documentation all over the place - For the Belenix, rpm5 and smart websites.
