Playing trial game of Fresh Connection

On Friday most of us met at the MCI lecture and we tried to find the time when we could actually play the trial game as a group because all of us have to be present.

We discussed to meet on Monday 18th February 17.20 (who can actually arrive at that time) with our PCs 

(or we need only a few?  or only one if they restrict the access to only one pc at the time?)

I'm not sure we'll be able to try the Game individually later that week because I've the impression you only can try out the several processes with subsequent business results only once.

Hello all,

 

As I understand this Tuesday we should have an introduction to the game, but without the real start. The real start will be only on 26 February.

What I would propose is actually to wait until the class of tuesday and not to try the trial today.

 

I am worried that as we have only 1 login and sort of only one chance to use it, it would be better to plat the trial after we have the explanation. And it would be better to do it some day when we have at least one full hour for this and when we are all present.

 

Any other thoughts?

I agree, as how come we are restricted to only one login. To avoid any unnecessary mistake, let's wait for the clear instruction from the professor I guess.

In order to analyse our results, there is a summary available of points to improve for every role.

You can check it if you log in to the Trial Game. I copy it here:

 

Purchasing:

• Mossi Mango and Plantin PET are significantly less reliable than was agreed to

Operations:

• The raw materials warehouse is relatively empty, with pallet locations open
• The finished goods warehouse is relatively empty, with pallet locations open
• The production plan adherence on the Swiss Fill 2 is low

Sales:

• The finished products Fressie Orange/Mango 1 liter, Fressie Orange/Mango PET and Fressie Orange 1 liter have a high obsoletes percentage
• A lower service level than agreed to is being provided to Dominick's, Food & Groceries and LAND Market

Supply Chain:

• There is a low level of availability for component Vitamin C for production
• Vitamin C and Mango have a high level of stock
• Fressie Orange/C-power 1 liter has a low level of stock

We need to find solutions for all these problems now. Attention: these solutions may not create now problems of course!

 

I suggest everybody thinks about possible solutions and post them here. I'll do my suggestions later today.

These are my propositions to improve our performance:

 

Purchasing:

• Mango: I suggest to contract a new supplier with a higher Agreed delivery reliability (93 to 95%?) and a smaller lead time (maximum 30 days)
• PET: I suggest to renegotiate the Agreed delivery reliability (up to 93 or even 95%?)
• Vitamin C: I suggest to contract a new supplier with a maximum lead time of 30 days
• Oranges: I suggest to renegotiate the Agreed delivery reliability up to 93%

Operations:

• Warehouses: I suggest no additional action to be taken now, once we have a higher availability of components and products, warehouses occupancy will automatically be closer to 80%
• Swiss Fill 2: Same as above, once more components are available, the Production plan adherence will automatically increase

Sales:

• I suggest to renegotiate the shelf life with all 3 customers (a shelf life of 70 to 80% should be OK)
• I suggest to renegotiate the service level with all 3 customers between 90% to 92%. This is our killer, because we have 517 232 penalties and our total loss is only 451 280 ( ! ). Without penalties, we would have made a nice profit...

Supply Chain:

• Vitamin C: safety stock is at maximum (8 weeks), so Purchasing needs to decrease the lead time (see above)
• Vitamin C and Mango: stock decrease necessary (together with reduction of lead time by Purchasing)
• Fressie Orange/C-power 1 liter: lower production interval necessary (6 to 4?)

I want your feedback on my suggestions and if you have any other proposition, please let know!

Thanks for the suggestions and looking into it. I still have not seen
the results posted on the game myself, but at least I had a look here
in the emails.

Indeed, from the operations point of view it might be the best to
actually to stick to decisions taken - as soon as we will have more
materials, the usage of warehouses should be ok.

But there is still an option to shlightly decrease the number of
pallet places. During the introduction, he mentioned that there should
be 15-20% free to be able to move the goods etc. At the moment the
decision was made to have 20% free, but this could be decreased to 15%

Please find our schedule of the suppliers in the attachment.

Following your suggestions, it would be:

1) Mango: I suggest to contract a new supplier with a higher Agreed delivery reliability (93 to 95%?) and a smaller lead time (maximum 30 days)

Answer: So, supplier Mossi is excluded (lead time 40 days). NO8DO is high quality but expensive and Mango is not our most important product. I would choose between Tampa and Delima, those are cheaper. Tampa: 93% = 0.9537, lead time 25 days, Delima: 93%=1.0126, lead time 15 days, both middle quality. I would choose Tampa because of our low cost strategy. 

 

• 2) PET: I suggest to renegotiate the Agreed delivery reliability (up to 93 or even 95%?)
• Answer: = Plantin with 93% reliability: cost = 0.978 (instead of 0.974, so I think 0.978 is okay?)

 

• 3) Vitamin C: I suggest to contract a new supplier with a maximum lead time of 30 days
• Answer:Then we need to choose between All Vitamins (middle quality, 90%, 0.991, lead time 20 days) or SYI (high quality, 90%, 1.0068, lead time 4 days), I would choose All Vitamins because Vitamin C is not a very important product. Is a lead time of 20 days okay, Brecht?
• 4) Oranges: I suggest to renegotiate the Agreed delivery reliability up to 93%
• Answer:If you want to follow the low cost strategy, I would advise Miami (93%rel = 0.979), BUT the leadtime is 30 days, is that okay?
