Got a text from Gatwick Clearance Delivery I had an open mic. I use PTT via L CTRL, so I confirmed nothing was pressing the key and texted same to Gatwick assuming either mic had been open but resolved itself after they sent text, or text was sent to me in error. A minute later I received another text indicating open mic and I immediately DCd as that seemed the fastest way to resolve the issue for other people on the service.

What I found was, when I had configured Streamdeck I used key combos plus letter for various functions. Some of those functions were hotkey switch rather than hotkey, and the culprit was L CTRL + h for heading select, both press and release. Once I had touched that key on the button box it was essentially staying pressed, even when I 'released' it via a second press. This was my setup for some time and I'd forgotten all the key combos I'd used. Prior to using xPilot it hadn't been an issue because, well, no possibility of an open mic.

I also just had an incident also at Gatwick. Upon learning that I had open mic, I quickly disconnected from VATSIM and unbound my push to talk button on my pilot client (vpilot) to attempt to resolve the problem. I reconnect, but Gatwick ground and all the traffic on Gatwick ground was all still letting me know that I still have open mic. I also don't have my push to talk button bound to anything on my sim (MSFS) I made sure using search by input.

And at least in x-plane keyboard PTT only works if x-plane window has the focus. So if you have e.g. opened charts on secondary screen and click there, the PTT does not work. Only if it is assigned to external controller like joystick button does it work anytime.

The gate will open at 5:30pm and the Boathouse doors will open at 6:30pm. Please come prepared to walk with your instrument/amp from the parking lot to the Boathouse. Open mic nights will take place once a month on selected Monday nights. Everyone is welcome to sit in the audience and enjoy the show for free!

June 17, 2019 at 03:06 PM I met my husband at an open mic. I was playing my violin and he came in, picked up a guitar from another musician, and started accompanying me. We had so much fun we continued to find opportunities to play together, and were married 2 years later. You never know what can happen at an open mic!

June 18, 2019 at 03:39 PM I'm glad to see other violinists have been attending open mic shows. I was up in Seattle a week ago. If I'd known about the Hopvine Open Mic evening, I would have dropped by to listen. Playing along with others sounds like a great idea. Also, I love the romantic story of the violinist and guitarist meeting at an open mic. Well done!

June 18, 2019 at 07:49 PM Classical Revolution sounds like a great idea. I play regularly in bluegrass jams (and the occasional open mic if I have time to hook up with a few other players), but it's not something you normally associate with classical music. I'd love such an opportunity - as it is, sometimes I'll sidle up to another fiddler and start playing the Bach Double to see if they take the bait.

After attending a morning course on Folk fiddle I was asked to attend and play at a local pub open session and initially played The Connaught man's Rambles. According to my 'book' each part A and B is to be played twice; imagine my 'horror' when playing the B part that the local rule was to play each part three times; imagine my horror at the 'noise' that I was causing; I quickly recomposed my playing so as to blend in with the others. After 30 minutes I was given the chance of redemption and I told of the style of my next tune. Unfortunately it was relayed as a 'plazma' tune instead of a Klezmer tune; fortunately (this to my benefit) nobody knew it and I gave a very fine solo ! Stewart (Plasma is a TV type!)

Keep in mind that every venue runs their mic a little differently, but here are some pointers that are pretty universal. Typically, signups for an open mic occur about 30 minutes before showtime. Unfortunately, there are often more comedians that show up to perform than there are spots for on the show. Typically, the host of a show will come out with a sign-up list and will collect the names of people that are interested in performing. After 15 minutes or so, the lineup and order of the performers will be posted. Here are some handy tips to help you deal with this portion of the open mic.

An open mic or open mike (shortened from "open microphone") is a live show at a venue such as a coffeehouse, nightclub, comedy club, strip club, or pub, usually taking place at night, in which audience members may perform on stage whether they are amateurs or professionals, often for the first time or to promote an upcoming performance.[1] As the name suggests, performers are usually provided with a microphone plugged into a PA system so that they can be heard by the audience.

Open mic events are most commonly held in the middle of the week or at the very end of the weekend when footfall through venues is low. They rarely occur on the hallowed Friday and Saturday night time slots, when venues are busy with weekend customers and any live performances are professionals who have been booked. The most common night for an open mic in the United Kingdom is Thursday, with Wednesday in second place.[2] The largest ongoing open mic-style music contest there is Open Mic UK, which regularly attracts 10,000 participants of all genres. The grand prize for the contest is an investment up to 30,000. The size of the event has necessitated that all participants sign up for performance slots beforehand, instead of simply walking onstage.[3][4]

A popular open mic arrangement in the United States is the "Blues Night". In this format, a bar or club will dedicate a particular night, usually in the middle of the week, as being "open mic blues night". The establishment may supply a house band, typically guitar, bass, and drums, and sometimes a keyboard. Singers, guitarists, and harmonica performers who wish to play sign up, usually with the host. This person is tasked with screening the performers, choosing and ordering, and getting the performers on and off stage in a polite manner.

Stand-up comedy open mic nights can be held at established comedy clubs but are more commonly held at other venues with or without a stage, often the upstairs or back room of a pub or bar, or at a bookstore, college campus, rock club, or coffeehouse.[6][7][8][9] Less commonly, they are also held at venues such as strip clubs[10] and comic book shops.[11][12] Comedy clubs may be the only open mic establishments that have a green room, a backstage area for performers waiting to go on stage where no audience members are present.[13]

Open mic nights give emerging comedians the opportunity to practice their stand-up routine, which they cannot do without a live audience.[26] The audience for a typical comedy open mic is other comedians.[27][28] Those underage must have their parents attend clubs with them.[29] More experienced comedians may use open mics as an unpaid opportunity to work out newer material or a new character.[30][31] Open mic comedy nights are most widespread in larger English-speaking cities with a well-established stand-up scene; the major examples include Boston, Chicago, London, and New York City. Stand-ups also use open mics for networking to find both paid and unpaid work opportunities, for making friends, or as a form of therapy.[32][33][34][35]

The host of a stand-up comedy open mic tries to maintain an equilibrium of mood within "the room".[57][58] Hosts will try to seat audience members close together near the designated front stage area because that seems to maximize the audience's feelings of enjoyment and may lead to increased laughter; of one such event, a reviewer wrote, "Tightly arranged seating within the comedy room created physical discomfort for audience members... yet audience members often talked about how much they enjoyed 'the feeling of a full house'. Conversely, when shows were not sold out and audience members had more room to spread out among empty tables and chairs, audience members were less likely to relate their experiences as one of entertainment or enjoyment."[64] The host introduces each act by reciting the name that was placed on the sign-up list and asks the audience to give the performer an introductory round of applause.[65][66][67] Performing first at an open mic puts the comedian at a disadvantage due to the audience being "cold" and is considered the most challenging spot to perform in.[68][69]
