Someone asked me the following question, and I couldn't come up with an answer.  Any ideas?

According to the Rambam (m.n. 2:42) that the speaking of bilams donkey was prophetic but not physical speech, how does one understand the mishna that the pi haoson was created bein hashmashos erev shabbos?

Personally, I think you're stuck either way. Even if you understand it as literal speech, the mishnah says H created "pi" ho'oson, so how does one understand the Mishnah that just the mouth was created?

Without Rambam could easily say Hashem created the ability of the donkey to speak.

I asked R' Sholom Segal about this as I saw on Shabbos that the Ralbag says something similar.
When you look at the Ralbag inside though, he specifically mentions that Chazal have a different pshat (proven from the mishna) but says he would use this pshat. The Rambam does this in many other places as well.
