Greetings all,

This Sat evening we have a very special briefing from the head of Handicap International on the current situation for people with disabilities in China - what are the legislative reforms planned to protect their rights? Please RSVP and we'll send you the restaurant address.

The Speaker:

Alessandra Aresu is China head of Handicap International, an international NGO working for and with people with disabilities advocating for their rights and inclusion (See handicap-international.org). HI has done great work in ensuring China's 80m-plus people with disabilities have improved rights and opportunities - indeed many of the organisation's projects have influenced policymakers.

Great to see other topics, and HI in particular, getting attention at BCD.

Here's a selection of China Development Brief readings on the issue and NGOs working in the sector:

People with Disabilities Have the Right to Equal Participation

Didi Kirsten Tatlow also has a nice piece on the topic, interviewing Meng Weina, the founder of the NGO, Huiling.
