The State Department said it will work with the Department of Homeland Security to “aggressively revoke” the visas, as well as revise the visa criteria, and “enhance scrutiny of all future visa applications” from China and Hong Kong.
The Chinese regime monitors Chinese students, mobilizing them through the Chinese Students and Scholars Association. Some of the association branches in the United States have admitted that they are directed, supported, or financed by Chinese consulates. These students have been known to attempt forced cancellation of events or speeches hosted by overseas dissident groups at U.S. schools, according to the State Department.
The FBI has warned that the CCP uses its post-graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in fields like engineering, science, and mathematics to “operate as non-traditional collectors of intellectual property.” (More) | Wolves Wreak Havoc on Cattle Herds in California Descendants of rewilded wolves are killing calves and full-grown animals in Northern California and Oregon and putting stress on cow-calf operations and ranchers’ pocketbooks.
Because wolves are listed as an endangered species under state and federal law, ranchers are hamstrung: They can’t shoot or harass these protected predators. The penalty for killing a wolf is steep; federal law carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine, unless a rancher can prove that it was in self-defense.
While animal advocacy groups say the wolves are native apex predators that belong in California and other western states, some ranchers argue that there’s nothing natural about wolves’ stalking domestic cattle because there isn’t enough natural prey. “They’re welfare wolves,” Janna Martin Gliatto, an owner at Table Rock Ranch in Northern California, said. “We have entitled wolves—multiple generations.” (More) | Trump Gives Putin 2 Weeks to Show Good Faith on Ukraine Peace Deal President Donald Trump said he is giving Russian President Vladimir Putin two weeks to demonstrate a genuine commitment to ending the war in Ukraine, warning that failure to do so could result in tougher action, including sanctions.
“I’m very disappointed,” Trump said on Wednesday, referring to Russia’s latest drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian cities, which he condemned for killing civilians during ongoing talks to put an end to the long-running war. Asked by a reporter whether he still believes that Putin “actually wants to end the war,” Trump said he remains uncertain whether the Russian leader is negotiating in good faith—and pledged a tougher U.S. response if it turns out that Putin is insincere.
“I can’t tell you that, but I’ll let you know in about two weeks,” Trump said. “Within two weeks we’re going to find out ... whether or not he’s tapping us along or not. And if he is, we’ll respond a little bit differently.” (More) | MORE TOP NEWS | | | | | | PREMIUM | | INSPIRED | | A WORD FROM ADVERTISER | Big Pharma and Big Food are fueling America's health crisis—and the media is helping them. This is evident in the everyday use of the word: “That’s just a myth.” We are taught that it is bad to “perpetuate” myths, and that it’s a cause for celebration to “debunk” them.
James Sale, one of The Epoch Times contributing writers, doesn’t agree with this assessment. He thinks the entire modern world has gone down a wrong path, precisely because it has forgotten the lessons that myths can teach us.
In “Gods, Heroes, and Us: Greek Myths in the Modern Era,” Sale argues that the Ancient Greek myths are still relevant. The stories about Apollo, Herakles, and Odysseus represent timeless truths about human nature and the moral order.
As Sale puts it, “Myths are making the invisible visible,” so that people can better understand reality. In doing so, we can combat the widely held views of relativism and scientism that are undermining our civilization.
Sale begins at the top with Zeus, the king of the Greek gods. The author points out that while Zeus rules Mount Olympus, he doesn’t rule arbitrarily. He’s not a tyrant, but subject to the laws of the cosmic order.
This is an important point. In the modern age, we’re taught that “equity” is the solution to everything, while order and hierarchy are bad. The irony here is that forced equity destroys order, and this can result in chaos, anarchy, and the very opposite of what is intended by utopian schemes. | | | EPOCH TV | | | OPINION | | | EPOCH FUN | | |
