so i have a shape i drew with the brush tool and its closed has no gaps, and i want to fill it with colour, so i go to the tool search and cant find regular fill or paint bucket, all i can find is live paint, i try it and quickly realise it works differently to fill or bucket in photoshop. i search up how to use the live paint tool and none of the tutorials worked for me so i go to this site and try to use fixes from other people that had similier issues, it still would not work. if anyone knows why this is happening or how to fix it please tell me. also i have an assignment where ill have to create a penguin in illustrator coming up soon and i dont wanna hand coulour it with the brush tool so all help is very much apreciated

The Paint along Path tool is a new way to paint strokes in the 3D viewport. Similar to other applications, you can create bezier based curves driven by points on the surface of your 3D object to draw patterns. Combined with Substance materials this new tool can open a lot of new possibilities.

New tool to create paint strokes driven by a path with points
Inside the tool's toolbar is a new icon dedicated to the Path tool. This new tool allows to draw curves on the surface of the 3D model to create paint strokes. These strokes can always be re-edited. When the tool is active, simply click on the mesh surface to add a point. Click on an existing point and press delete to remove it.

Re-edit paths (and their properties) with the Path panel
When the Paht tool is selected, the path made within the current paint layer are listed in the dedicated Paht panel at the top of the 3D viewport. This panel allows to select, delete or rename path to

Paint with other tools like Eraser or Smudge
The path tool is also compatible with the eraser and the smudge tool, unlocking more advanced ways of painting and combining strokes with the easy and re-editable way of manipulating path points.

Save and re-use path properties with presets
When using the Path tool, you can also save the brush properties as presets. This allows to save tool presets which will automatically switch to the Path tool when selected from the Assets window.

We took to opportunity of the new path tool to add new properties to the dynamic stroke system. These new properties unlock new kind of strokes which weren't possible before, like the arrow on the image above which features a different start and end visual.

With this release we decided to do a bit of cleanup in our library and therefore changed our default base materials to make them more useful to everybody. These materials have been crafted by the same team delivering content on Substance 3D Assets.

The issue is still persisting. I installed the latest version, and the draw tool works fine for a while but around 10 minutes in has stopped working. Right clicking does not fill in the region I have drawn, but the paint feature still works.

@Andras It has been working for now with the new update - when I did run into the issue a couple times I just closed and re-opened slicer which made things work again. I will try this next time I run into the issue and let you know, thank you!

I've been playing in v2020 and trying these new elevation tools. However, it seems that these can only have color and paint which drinks ink like crazy. Is there a way or setup to have the texture lines show but not the colors? (Basically make a visible line drawing with the texture lines there so you don't have to use the paint tool but leave the colored fill off). Right now it looks like the only way to achieve this is the old way of just doing a save as .spd and painting in the lines which makes the new annotated tool useless unless you do all color/shaded elevation drawings. Thanks.

Try all the render modes and make adjustments for how you want it. I have a set up I modified from Joseph Smith's Illustrated mode that works well. Personally I dislike how annotated elevations work, but just did one in a concept so the builder would have some quick elevation height references.

Note: If you use annotated elevations in plan sets and then export dwg the elevations export as image files NOT lines. To get line elevations you have to manually save each elevation then add them to the plan set THEN export the dwg file. I wish that they would program this to do automatically. The mechanism is already there just code it to work.

Sounds like I better to stick to the old way just save the elevations and hatch. I have to send dwg too often to do otherwise. I also think auto-hatch based on the texture would be a huge step forward. It already shows the lines as it is; just need a way to remove the colored paint/texture itself and leave just its lines represented.

If you are wanting the texture lines for cladding, add a profile to the material in the wall definition, give the texture some relief depth and use visible line for your Annotated view. Also good for 3D. Be it a live Annotated elevation or a saved (static) elevation paint texture from the model can be selected for just part of the drawing. Look under Paint > Model > Model Paint.

If I understand your question properly - here is how I do it. Use shaded mode In the Mode Options menu, under line options, check the box for 'display lines, display silhouette & display texture lines Under Face Options chose 'Monochrome'. You can set these on the Planset to be independent of what your normal 3D...

on the flipside, sai is easier to crack, if you really dont wanna splash out. i did well with it for like five years, but found that i started using file and batch sizes too large for the program to handle. i think csp is definitely worth the buy and is the better program, its brushes are more versatile, editable, and higher definition, and it has so many more tools. meanwhile, photoshop is industry standard - if youre thinking of working with comic publishing houses, it could be a good idea to get to know the program early, but lots of people in the industry defy the standard.

Is there any point in getting the EX version for vertical or single page comics?
Most of the extra features seems to be for managing chapters or animation.
(I could be wrong tho, haven't looked into it since I can't upgrade now anyway.)

In my opinion, go with the app that you are comfortable with. There is always a possibilty to work around to make a vertical webcomics. I use PS even for my comic but that's because I use it since I start drawing haha.

Most artists don't use EX and don't really need it. It's pretty convenient for a chapters page and I love it for that, but you can still make comics without that feature just fine and for most people, though they like the extra features it's not worth the extra money for them. The choice is up to you and what works best for what you need it, most artists do fine without EX and PRO gives them everything they need.

The physical copy of EX is currently $90 because they are liquidating their stock (as far as I understood it)
my.smithmicro.com Manga Studio EX 5Manga Studio is the world's leading comic and manga creation software and delivers powerful art tools for every manga and comic artist. It is designed both for artists wishing to enhance and perfect their pen-and-paper illustrations and for artists...

id recommend PS and then clipstudio.
ive been using clipstudio since 2014. very good very user friendly drawing program. its great for beginners and for pro's as well. you can animate, paint realistically and it really focuses on lineart so you really have good linetool tools as well.
they are the same thing is manga studio but i think clip is the one that is the upgraded version. (if anyone has had manga studio theyve probably since updated to clipsyudio)

and PS is amazing. alot of professionals use it. i was thinking about getting it but then they where asking for a monthly fee. a monthly fee i cannot do. but if your into that kinda stuff go ahead. photoshop is great on artist resumes as well. alot of jobs in the art feild look for that when you apply.

If you can find an older version of PS then you dont have to worry about the monthly fee. I use the current CC version of PS; only paying $10 a month...but if you dont have $10 a month, CSP works just as good as Photoshop.

yea i tried looking for cs6 i wouldve bought it but it just isnt available online anymore
and id say if you want something thats going to really help you with design and things like that id go for photoshop. for logos and design things.

Personally I use Paint Tool SAI (for everything, not just my comic). I haven't tried other programmes because i'm so comfy with sai. the cheap pricetag ($25) and user-friendly interface is great, plus you still have the ability to download infinite user-made brushes (there are some really great ones online!). only downside for me i've found is the lack of a polygonal marquee tool, especially since my speech bubbles are polygons... plus you can't do text in it.

so i do have to use photoshop for lettering and sometimes adjusting bubbles, but it's hellishly clunky, confusing and oftentimes looks ugly (because i have no idea how to fix the brush settings, so it's on constant-MS-paint-esque mode). as stnmaren says, its truly "a punishment" lmao

I use Paint Tool Sai for coloring when I need it, and sometimes comic stuff. I use FireAlpaca mostly, though, cause' it's lines are super crisp to me, and I like it for lineart and black lines. Not much good for much else to me, though.
