On page 27 under the subheading "Railroad Diagrams" you have figure 2-2 which has the hypothetical ROW command. This figure is your first introduction to RR diagrams
The examples you give include:

ROW, ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR PIROGUE
ROW, ROW,ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR LARGE CORACLE
If you look at the railroad diagram you gave for the ROW command, you do not have a "track" to show that the {BIG, LARGE} clause is optional.
This confused me as I tried to learn what and how a RR diagram worked. It was not until 20 minutes later when I moved past this initial example to look at Figure 2.3 of the RR diagram of a SELECT statement that I realized there is a way to show an optional clause and that the first diagram did not include it.
