TodayI wanted to spend some more time highlighting a few of my latest Premium wedding photo albums. I design luxury albums hand-crafted by Graphistudio! Graphistudio is one of the longest-running and most-prestigious wedding album artisans in the world. They were founded in Italy in 1982. The albums are handmade at their headquarters in Italy. Graphi has offices all over the world. Luckily, the US headquarters is right here in Minneapolis! These are a few of my latest designs for you to get a sense of their variety, customizability and craftsmanship.

Now, here is where the beauty of Instagram and sharing free education comes in. It was right after Instagram stories came out in 2016 and I was trying to figure out a way to fulfill a clients wishes of having me create their album, but I literally had no idea where to go. Then I watched another photographers story as they chatted about a company they work with to design all of their clients albums and take it off their hands. They upload the images, fill out the design form with specifications and then just upload the designs to an album printing company when done, and tada. The company she was talking about was Align Album Design.

I use Cloudspot for client galleries so it makes it super easy for clients to make lists for downloading their favorites, but also for designing their album! Depending on their album size I let them know that about 100 images is PLENTY to get their album design going. Proper wedding album design is possible when we photograph images with design in mind. The reason that I say that is because images on their own have to be aesthetically pleasing. The moment that things start to come together is when we start telling a story through those images.

When designing your family photo album, I am thinking about your family, your session, and your gallery of images. As you flip through the pages of your album I want you to be transported and taken along the story of our time together.

Each album is unique. However, I have a design process I use to ensure your photo album feels cohesive and complete. Follow along below to get a peek behind the scenes of your family portrait session.

During your family photography session, I begin by guiding your entire family into a pose together. From there spawn several different photos. I will then move in close and capture smaller groupings, smaller details, and moments that are occurring from the first pose and prompts. These are the moments and details for the first page.

Typically a large family photo is featured. Also included on the first two pages (or first spread) are either a few additional pictures of the entire family from the early part of the session or the photos are close-ups of smaller groupings from the same poses.

With that, I take time with siblings and each child to capture them. I do not ask them to smile but I talk to each child. I want genuine responses. This also leads to several photos for each child that are included in your album.

As for your family photo album, we include photos of the parents typically with sibling photos. However, once again the flow of your session matters. The featured session here had a young baby and we were by the water so we waited until we moved to a new spot within the park for parent photos. Thus, these photos are toward the back of the album.

As we are nearing the middle of your family photo album, we love those details of your family and your portrait session be here. This could be wider photos of your family skipping rocks. It could be you running through a field together, playing ring-around-the-rosie, or sitting watching the sunset together.

The biggest gift you can give each of your children is a portrait of you with them. During your photo session, I will have you snuggle up with each kid for a few quick photos. Depending on the age and personality of your children, I have different prompts so the focus is on your connection and not on smiling for the camera.

These are also up next in your family photo album! Typically each parent will have a spread of them with the kids (all the kids and each individually). However, the number of children you have and the dynamics in your session will affect the final design.

Then your family photo album is shipped to your home. When it arrives on your doorstep, you will love being able to flip through it right away. However, your family photo album will only gain in value with time. As your children pick up the album a month, year, or several years later you will love pouring through the pages with them.

One of my favorite parts about the flush mount albums is the quality and thickness of the cover materials. There are a lot of different color and material swatches to choose from, making it easy to compliment the unique look and feel of your wedding day. These are the kind of materials that somehow look even better with age.

I fully understand a wedding album is a luxury investment. Hard cover books are a more affordable alternative to the flush mount albums I offer. The biggest differences between these two types of albums is that the hard cover books do not have a lay flat binding, the option for leather materials, or a custom deboss. Instead, fine art press papers are bound into a fabric cover of your choice.

The short answer is yes. There are a few extra incentives if you pre-book an album (lower base pricing, an upgrade to lux cover materials, and a complimentary custom deboss). I can also get started on the album immediately after your gallery has been delivered.

A lot of couples come back to me a few months later when their lives have settled down after the wedding. But if you're considering an album, it should be ordered within a year of your wedding (I don't hold onto RAWs long after that and my lab pricing is subject to change)!

Generally, collaborating on the album design will take 1-2 weeks. After I submit the design to the lab, it takes another 4-6 weeks for them to physically produce. The album is then shipped to me from the lab to quality check and custom package. Finally, it makes its way home to you.
