Iam trying to install Wireshark 3.6.4 on a Windows 10 machine (current on updates). The error I get says ""The Visual c++ Redistributable installer failed with error 113. Please make sure you have KB2999226 or KB3118401 installed. Unable to continue installation" Those KBs are not valid for Windows 10. I rebooted my machine. I reinstalled the Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022 and still get the same error. The older version of Wireshark (3.4.14) installs fine. Anyone have a clue?
Adding to this, I can extract the vcredist_x64 installer from the Wireshark install files when the install fails and run it manually without issue. Also note I had uninstalled all VS2015 versions of vcredist and had rebooted.
(((((This is due to a slightly different problem. We switched to Visual Studio 2022 for the 3.6.4 build, and unfortunately I missed backporting a change which is required to support that. I'm working on the 3.6.5 release, which should be out in a bit.
Glad to see you solved the fail to star problem. As a side note, FORGET everithing you knew about redistributables, Xojo did some questionable choises that lead to some kind of DDLHELL. You are going to find some PCs with that kind of error (setup failed) and imposible to install the runtime so, No Xojo apps. Just mark the option to include the runtime files in the build folder and your apps wre going to run without needing a runtime install.
I guess it is back to the last version of Sonar that I bought. I'm unable to install on my new Windows machine because of the "Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3" situation.
I'm not willing to risk my system by rolling back Visual Studio or using a solution suggested 10 years ago. They update Windows for security reasons, so I'm going to play it safe and not undo their updates.
There's a huge difference between installing Visual Studio and installing the Visual Studio redistributable libraries. It's the redistributable libraries you need.
Installing an earlier version of the redistributables (e.g. VS2015 , when the current OS has VS2017 ) does not overwrite the current VS2017 redists. It just adds them so both versions are then available.
You may find however that by installing Sonar, it installs the required libraries in any case.
If you're trying to call regsvr32 on a 32 bit plugin though, that isn't going to work at all in a 64 bit OS.
What DLL are you trying to register?
Are you sure you're not trying to register a 32-bit DLL on a 64 bit OS ? Try registering the 64 bit version of the DLL instead.
If it lives in C:\Program Files (x86)\ then it's likely to be the 32 bit version.
64 bit versions normally live in C:\Program Files\
There's a few other reasons that could also give a code 3 error:
I tried running the CheckUp application to and that failed my graphics card saying it has too little RAM. Really? I run high end racing simulation on 3 monitor in full 3D at 144Mhz. The NVidia system information is reporting 12256MB total available graphics memory.

I have VS2017 installed and was initially frustrated and then finally decided to look further; saw this and used 7zip to extract SketchUpMake-en-x64.exe into a directory and finally used the *.msi installer with success!
Confirm. I found the sketchup* .msi in the temp folder and cut it from there. Something is wrong with the installer offered on sketchup homepage. It gives the Visual C++ 2014 Runtime invitation but windows does not let that as it is already installed. (win 10 x64 home). People should use the .msi file. it just works.
I have just tried to install sketchup pro 2018. It gave me the same above error. I just tried to unistall the programs and window to me there are not on the computer. I also tried to install the program and it would not install. I am under a deadline and need this to run. it is not my choice program and i have a midterm project due tuesday. please help me to get sketchup installed. I just got my computer back today after some major problems.
Vc_redist.x64.exe problems are generally seen during Men of War: Assault Squad 2 program launch, and typically caused by executable file corruption, or in some cases if the file has been accidentally or maliciously removed by malware. Although annoying, these issues can usually be easily remedied through replacing the problem EXE file. Additionally, some vc_redist.x64.exe errors can be due to incorrect registry references, so we recommend conducting a registry scan to clean up any invalid entries.
These types of errors will normally stop occuring if the correct vc_redist.x64.exe file version is placed in the right location, but you should double-check that is the case. Confirm that the error is resolved by attempting to open Men of War: Assault Squad 2 and / or conducting the operation that triggers the issue.
Vc_redist.x64.exe EXE errors happen during Men of War: Assault Squad 2 installation, while running Vc_redist.x64.exe-related applications (Men of War: Assault Squad 2), during startup or shutdown, or during installation of Windows OS. It's important to note when vc_redist.x64.exe issues happen, as it helps troubleshoot Men of War: Assault Squad 2 problems (and report to Digitalmindsoft).
Given it's x64 Office and x64 Windows 7 I don't know why it is looking for x86 MS Visual C++ Redistributable. Also I have manually successfully installed the Outlook client. It fails however when automating the install when it comes to trying to find the above file. I've also manually installed this and still it says It cannot find it. Below is most of the setup log files.
After some searching I heard there should be a Redist folder with pre-reqs included so I've added similar to what is on the media CD JUST the VCRedist folders within the Redist folder. Still failed.
Thanks for posting this information. I am experiencing the same issue, but for the 2016 client. I have a problem with this program trying to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 when it, or a newer version, is already installed on the machine. It appears to not put the extracted files in the temp folder from where it runs, then presents an error of "The system cannot find the specified product". I have all of the pre-req folders in the correct locations (not sure if that applies to the 2016 client as I cannot find any information about it online).
The DVD folder you create will contain the Redist folder and all of the pre-reqs per the TechNet article. You should then take all of your other files (including the current "Client" folder) and move them into a new Client folder.
Okay I will give that a go and see how I get on. I notice when installing via SCCM if I install under the User context the CRM 2013 Outlook client installs as expected. However if I install it under the system account it fails requesting the VRedist c++ redistributable as shown above in my initial error. This would be okay installing as user except not all users are local admins. Are you aware of this? Has anyone managed to install under the system context successfully?
The error message you receive compared to the trace messages suggests that it tries to install the 64-bit version but cannot find that in the temporary redist directory. Could you try installing the 64-bit version manually (link 1 below)? List of redistributables to download in case of no internet connection listed in link 2. You might also need to clear the install files from the directory it lists.
Thank you, for this information. I am working with your information but have not fixed the issue yet. Audacity does run well on my W10 and Vista machines. I will get back with this message board if required.
Trebor,
Your information did FIX the issue. I first uninstalled Audacity. Downloaded this (vc_redist.x64.exe) thing for Win 8.1. The computer wanted to restart after the download. Then I installed Audacity again. The 86 version of the thing threw me off course for quite a while.
I have the same problem. I installed both Visual Studio Enterprise 2019 and build tool
2019. However, still not working. Try to install vc_redist.x64.exe, and got newer version already installed.
Therefor I still could not start the HDFView, Do you need anything other than unpack the HDFViewApp-3.1.2-win10_64-vs16.zip and install the visual studio?
Note that the batch file must be adjacent to the HDFView.exe file. The batch file will look for the exe in the same folder. Of course, if you want to just click the icon, then the path to the dlls must be added to the PATH environment variable.
Hello, I am having the same problem however for some reason the solution did not work (or I am doing it wrong). When I try I get an error that says it cannot find the exe file, even though it is in the same folder, and it asks if I types it in wrong. Could anyone possibly help with this?
The PATH issue is because the Oracle jpackager does not consider the need for other dlls (runtime component). The batch file (will be included in new versions) prepends the dll location. Copying the dlls next to the HDFView.exe uses the default search path, which searches the executable dir first.
