Prof. Silvia Tiezzi and Prof. Chiara Rapallini are opening two post-doc positions at the Universities of Siena and Firenze, respectively, to work on a common research project.
The purpose of the project is to design and implement a field experiment in Florence to test if policies specifically designed for shaping habits and/or de-biasing beliefs are useful in changing transportation choices in urban areas. While research in behavioural and experimental economics has explored the effectiveness of economic incentives to increase physical activity and the causal effect of economic incentives to increase cycling, there are no controlled trials studying the impact of experience and learning to choose cycling over driving as a commuting travel choice mode to develop healthy and sustainable habits.
Formally, the positions are for two years (one year renewable for a second year).
The positions have yet to be announced. The selection will take place at the beginning of 2024. Successful candidates are expected to start working at the beginning of March 2024.
The candidates are expected to collaborate throughout all phases of the research project.
Specific duties linked to this post will include: developing the field experiment at all phases by contributing to identifying and handling the main obstacles to the implementation of the experiment; interacting with the project’s stakeholders (RideMovi, FIAB, and Municipality of Florence representatives) who have already endorsed the project; monitoring the field experiment; data analysis; writing up of papers; dissemination of results.
We will happily consider candidates from economics, statistics, psychology, sociology and political science. Previous experience in experimental economics, or in analysing geographic referenced data, would be a plus. PhD students near the completion of their PhD program are eligible.
Interested candidates are invited to contact Silvia (silvia...@unisi.it) or Chiara (chiara.r...@unifi.it).
