Pollination needs and diverse bees of a prospective fuelbreak wildflower, curlycup gumweed (Grindelia squarrosa)(Asteraceae)". I have come to admire Grindelia for its reliable bloom, even in a severe drought like we have had this summer when most everything else is brown and crisp. It can be a life saver for bees on the wing in late summer where it blooms. Our's is only a perspective from the eastern Great Basin and Snake River Plains, but the species extends west to California and east into the Plains, and the genus is in South America too.
