Hi all,

Tobias Mueller and I wanted to share our new publication in the Journal of Applied Ecology on using automated drone imaging and object detection to survey ground nesting bee aggregations.

While nothing will fully replace the classic methods of studying bee aggregations, we think this is an exciting new approach to get accurate nest counts, allow for easy repeat sampling, and facilitate spatial mapping with millimeter accuracy.

We hope that this method will open some doors for new research questions and management/monitoring approaches, and allow for some of our most time consuming work to be expedited without sacrificing accuracy.

Check it out!
