Dear bee fans,
We have added a new way for "experts" to weigh in on
BeeMachine predictions - allowing you to
validate or update the name of our top-predicted species. This
will enable us to start posting our validated sightings to
GBIF and use the associated images to improve our computer
vision models.
I am reaching out to see if you or others in your network
might be willing to help us test out this new feature. Your
help would be greatly appreciated, especially knowing how
valuable your time is and that many of you already contribute
your ID skills to other community science efforts. Our goal
with BeeMachine is to develop the platform into a more
reliable identification service that also provides data back
to the scientific community.
How it works:
If you are interested, let me know the email address
associated with your BeeMachine account. I can then assign you
expert status, which unlocks a "Needs Verification" button on
sightings. Clicking this button opens a dialog where you can
either confirm the BeeMachine prediction or update it. I
welcome any feedback on the validation process - what works,
what could be improved, and ideas for recognizing or crediting
expert contributions.
Currently, validation is implemented on the
website but not yet in the mobile app.
Please feel free to forward this email to others who may be
able and willing to help.
All the best,
Brian
Brian
