All,

There are still openings available for The Andrena Assembly in May. The Andrena Assembly is a 4.5 day workshop May 4-8, 2026 and focuses on the identification of Andrena and other mining bees in the eastern US with a focus on midwestern species. Learn the identification characters and nuances of those characters and learn to use LaBerge's dichotomous keys as well as recently developed keys to subgenera and species. Currently we have a handful signed up but we need 12 students for the course to launch.

The cost of the Andrena workshop is $650.00 and you will be responsible for travel, lodging, and meals during the workshop.
The workshop will be hosted by the Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab on the Marian University campus in Indianapolis, Indiana. A tentative course schedule for the workshop is attached.
If interested, please send request to rj...@envsi.com and I will follow up.  Space is limited to 15 participants for this workshop and registration (emailing Rob) will close on April 24, 2026 (extended from previous email).

Many thanks,
Rob Jean

Pollination Networks of Spring Ephemerals
A citizen science project for Washtenaw County

—David Cappaert, Quamash EcoResearch

Land conservancy groups in Michigan have a granular understanding of the plants that are the basis of a healthy ecosystem. We know much less about the pollinators on which the plants depend. So we’ve begun an investigation of plant-insect relationships of early woodland wildflowers. Our study design leverages the concept of a pollinator network, a technique for illustrating how many plants interact with many pollinators. Our approach is essential citizen science: use volunteers to collect, identify, analyze, and present results to the collaborating organizations.
