All,

Just performed an OAV treatment on my hives using the Provap 110 for the first time. So quick and easy. Four hives in less than half an hour.

Hopefully this will reduce my overwintering loss rate. It’s not a cheap piece of equipment but safer, faster and easier than the old wand technique.

Happy to lend it out if anyone would like to give it a try.

Bob

Cool device. I can see how it might be worth the $450 for the convenience and ease. But you have to plug it in. Did you use it in the Cow Common yard and if so, how?

Yes. Used an inverter hooked up to my car battery. Super easy

Hi Bob,
do you mean your electric car? With a 110 volt electrical appliance, 250 watts, will any inverter  allow this power to be drawn from a normal car battery?
Engineers, can you enlighten us?

Bob’s approach can work very well for field work electrical needs.  I have a 1000W 110-120V inverter wired to my Prius 12V battery and use it as a selective backup for home critical needs when we lose power from the grid (we don’t have a battery wall for our solar panels).  The Prius will fire the engine automatically only when the battery needs charging and then turn itself off so you’re not running an engine continuously.  A caution, since the amps are very high, it is important to have the wires running from battery to inverter  protected with substantial inline fuses.  We’ve used this system to run an electric chain saw away from power sources.

I actually just ran this on our gas powered car that is a 4 wheel drive and has higher clearance since it was snowy and muddy. 400 watt inverter. More than enough power. Simple. The Provap doesn’t draw much juice.
