Not exactly bee keeping

I have been reading about the death of hives and just plain alarmed that I don't see honeybees anymore.  It would be difficult to set up a traditional white beekeeping box (and I have no interest in harvesting the honey) but is there a way I could establish a natural hive somehow in the small wooded area adjacent to our property?
