In my own practice, i use SU, but have taught myself to use AC because of my work with the architects I collaborate with. One cannot really compare the two software packages, but they do seem to work well together. These architects are now using version AC v22, and with every upgrade the interaction with SU seems to get better. For those that are interested, will be happy to share workflows with regard to the importing of SU models into AC.

Just thinking out loud here, but what if you used one of the SketchUp extensions that flattens 3D objects into 2d so you end up with a 3D export file that has 2D plans and sections in 3D space, and on the ArchiCad end with their native tools you can build off of it, hopefully, relatively quickly? Sort of like tracing over things and not having to type in as much?

So... for a long time now, I've been setting up VIEWS in ARCHICAD with the proper camera settings including TIME OF DAY. These views would then transfer over to ENSCAPE by merely using the CAMERA TRACKING button...

Bluebeam Connection is an Archicad add-on that imports Revu markups as native entries in Archicad. This connection allows markups to appear on the correct location of a design layout and can be managed with the Bluebeam Connection Palette.

Im an ArchiCAD user, look, when ArchiCAD have created the first version of ArchiCAD-Rhino-Grasshopper connection, it was always one way, luckily from version 21 and with the minumum update build 4022, the connection is bi-directional. So make sure you will work with ArchiCAD version 21 & with the last update.

So I created a blog and my first Youtube video (cue disclaimer that it's probably awkward and embarrassing and making a video is hard) to talk about the Macbook Air with Apple Silicon and using Archicad 24. FINALLY. I've been trying to do this for weeks and never could get timing to work out. Hopefully I covered stuff that others might find helpful if you've been thinking about this machine too. It's in a precarious position now with rumors of 14" and 16" Pro machines coming soon; but still relevant because I'm sure they'll cost wayyy more. Anyways, hope it's helpful and I'm happy to answer and questions I didn't cover if I'm able to.

Question: Can a $1000-$1400 computer compete with high-end Intel Macs / PCs?
Short answer: I think so. I will try to explain how it serves my needs and why it impresses me so that you can see how my experiences might compare to your needs.

As per a requirement of a job interview, I am tasked with developing add-ons for Archicad with C++. Archicad is totally new to me and I just heard about the software from my interviewer this morning. I visited the ArchiCAD website for their API documentation, but it seems a bit unusual to me. I have never worked with any CAD software like API and Archicad examples are not yet available to me as I've just requested for a Developer ID and it might take 2/3 days to grant me this.

This is all I need to show the recruiter within 3-4 days for qualifying for the next round in the process. So, if anyone comes up with the helping docs or example, I will be truly grateful. Honestly, I am badly in need of a job.

You can follow this link -started-with-archicad-add-ons. This is a simple tutorial to create an simple Add-ons and add it to the Archicad software. And again if you installed the API Development Kit for the Archicad. In the installation location you will found a folder called "Examples" where you will get some of the demo project for the add-on. I think that will help you a lot.

In case you get an object with data attached then it will take a script to access the data and create a Honeybee zone from each ArchiCAD zone. This is the ideal workflow and if we can manage this to happen then you can have your live integration.

@Astaahl,
Thank you for posting your comments. The draw-back about this method is whenever you make a change in your ArchiCAD model you have to export the .3dm file manually. Also you have to reassign all the meta data which are not coming with the geometry.
If the grasshopper connection provides Objects with meta data then that can make the whole process much easier and make the connection somewhat live.

I allow myself to update this discussion because i am interesting to know more about the working process between ArchiCAD and Grasshopper. Did you find a way to export 3D information from ArchiCAD to Grasshopper with the Grasshopper connection?

Now, having the overall shape, it was the time to begin the fun part. It all started slowly with Lunchbox and dividing the shape in triangles with sizes more or less possible to recreate in real world.

The benefits of BIM grow as one collaborates with others. Archicad is great for collaboration. Turn that into part of your learning strategy. Find an existing user and do a project together. Not only do you get to learn, you also get to see the benefits of high-level Archicad usage first hand. This also alleviates one of the biggest fears of switching to a new program: maintaining the quality and profitability of your first project.

Running Enscape alongside Archicad is as simple as downloading the Enscape application, connecting your license, opening a 3D window in your Archicad project, then clicking on the open Enscape button from the Enscape toolbar. You control what you want to see in Enscape from Archicad using layers, renovation filters, and 3D filters, with the resulting real-time render imagery being displayed on your desktop or laptop.

After your design meetings or to provide deliverables for your submissions, Enscape has a broad collection of export functions available. These exports are not only of a higher quality, but they are also very quick to export compared to using Cinerender in Archicad.

You can export 360 Panoramas in standard or stereo mode for viewers like google cardboard. These exports provide an entry-level feel for virtual reality, with users able to view on their computer or dynamically view these views on their mobile phone while turning the phone standing in one spot.

Realistic perspectives can be created with a variety of camera and atmosphere settings, providing more realistic imagery akin to the imagery captured by professional photographers capturing real architecture.

Fly-through movies can also be created and saved to be used to present to your clients and stakeholders at the same high-quality realistic standard as the perspectives.
You also have the option to export your 360 Panoramas, or the actual Enscape model to an Enscape-hosted online portal, with access provided to your stakeholders via URL or QR code. They can then view the panoramas online or navigate the model in a supported web browser.

Another export option offered is an Executable .exe file that can be opened on any supporting PC computer to navigate around the model. This can be done without Archicad or Enscape on the viewing computer. This method still enables you to view the model in VR, but live changes can not be made between Archicad and Enscape. This is a great method for communicating a finished design to stakeholders like potential building contractors during the tendering process or for sub-contractors to view on-site to see the design intent prior to commencing work. It could also be used in a multi-residential sales office to walk potential buyers through the virtual apartments prior to them being built. The opportunities are almost endless.

The biggest problem with Enscape is that it is extremely easy to use. The user interface is well designed and simple for new users. You just open the software and begin using it to deliver imagery and walk around in VR. With only a few clicks, you are on your way.

This is where I went wrong. Being one that always jumps into software before reading the manual, I did the same with Enscape. The outputs I was able to create without any training at all were reasonable, but not to the quality that Enscape can truly deliver.

So, my one recommendation is that you take a little bit of time to learn some of the key features of the tool before you begin. If you do this, the quality of your outputs will be at the high standard that Enscape can truly deliver, and you will obtain the benefits of this great tool.

I suggest you start by watching this video from Enscape on how to get started with Enscape 3.3 + Archicad.

The second area I recommend spending time understanding is lighting. Architecture is nothing without being able to see it how we envision it to be. There are a few tricks you need to play to achieve good quality lighting from Archicad into Enscape. I typically use 3 x components to achieve what I visually want to achieve:

With so many things to consider in putting this article together, I almost forgot another important part of Enscape, its built-in model library. The Enscape Asset Library is a great way to enhance your design model with over 3,000 models that can be added into your Archicad project.

These objects are already preset with incredibly realistic textures ready to use in Enscape. You just go into the Enscape library within Archicad and place the elements directly in Archicad in either the 2D or 3D window.

These module show you how to enable MasterKey on ArchiCAD, connect to your project, create keynotes and update keynotes throughout the drawing set with a single click! You can also download the complete documentation manual for MasterKey ArchiCAD here.

Architecture and building professionals as well as students can take Archicad for a test drive. GRAPHISOFT, the developers of Archicad, offers a 30-Day Trial and an educational version for students, teachers and schools. This download can be used by any professional for 30 days or by a student or professor for a period of one year (renewable annually) if they meet the academic requirements. After you activate your trial explore Archicad with short tutorials.
