2. Go to the "Start Menu" and right click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator" (if you dont see the "Command Prompt" in the start menu enter "command prompt" in the "File Search" bar.. it should locate it for you)

This "should work" you may need to re-enter the 2 commands after the PC is shut down or re-booted other wise your good to go and you can run the game by normally double clicking on the short cut Icon after exiting the game. I found after a couple of times of re-booting it seems to have remembered it and I havent had to re-enter the commands. Upon reboot or start up for the first time you run the game for the day you have to right click "Run as Admin" on the CC or Zero Hour short cut Icon. You may want to make a little cheat sheet in note pad with these commands and just copy paste them when needed.

Trying to overcome this issue with windows xp. Downloaded a couple fix all patches from CNCNZ and entered the command prompts but no go. McAfee did say it detected viruses from the patch download. Any specific patch to download? What about the detected virus prompt?

Generals plays very differently from its sibling Tiberium and Red Alert series. For instance, resources are no longer obtained from minerals scattered on the ground, but are instead collected at "supply docks" and "supply stockpiles," and these resources, unlike Ore or Tiberium, are finite in quantity. Units now possess "special abilities" aside from their primary functions, such as American vehicles being able to create hovering robotic drones to provide support, Chinese Hackers capable of shutting down buildings or providing a steady flow of funds, and the basic soldiers of all three factions being able to capture buildings, eliminating the previous method of using engineers (although the process of capturing buildings in Generals is gradual rather than the instantaneous capture of previous games). Perhaps the most distinctive difference in contrast to Tiberium and Red Alert is that structures must be built using "builder" units, rather than prefabricated constructs which are deployed once completed. In spite of these differences, Generals retains many of the conventions of previous games, such as power to keep one's base up and running, Superweapons to devastate the enemy forces, commando units, and a Mammoth-esque tank (The Overlord).

The United States is the most technologically-advanced faction, and fights with a combination of powerful ground units and a large, versatile fleet of aircraft. USA forces rely on skill, mobility, and high technology to defeat the raw firepower of China and the guerrilla tactics of the GLA. USA ground vehicles can construct unmanned drones to support and repair them in combat, while American troops and vehicles make extensive use of laser technology to guide weapons and defend against attack. American infantry have a number of special abilities, and include stealthy long-ranged snipers called Pathfinders and a powerful commando named Colonel Burton with a number of abilities revolving around demolition and stealth. The USA also fields the largest air fleet in the game, including attack and transport helicopters, fighter planes, high speed bombers and stealth bombers. American Generals' abilities revolve around air power, including air strikes by A-10 Thunderbolts and fuel air bombs (a.k.a The Daisy Cutter). They also possess a Particle Cannon super weapon capable of destroying units and most buildings in a single use.

Originally, the game was intended to have a generals system, as its title suggested, similar to the generals in the Zero Hour expansion pack. In this game, however, generals were not selected in the skirmish/multiplayer menu like factions, but instead main factions were selected and then generals could be chosen. Each general offered bonuses and penalties for the training of units.

The Good
Man, I tell you, I love real-time strategy games. Good or bad, I really do love them all. I like being able to command my own forces and use strategy to destroy my enemy. I like building bases, I just like the feeling of being both God and Commander of my forces. And multiplayer is always fun in real-time strategies. Isn't it great seeing two grand forces clash in one area? Watching the destruction, the fighting...it's great, it really is.

The Good
I am a great fan of the C&C series. Tiberian Sun was my favourite. The graphics in C&C generals were very good. The intros were great. The gameplay (while it lasted) was also excellent.

The Bad
I completed it in a day. There was only one mission that my 7 year old brother couldn't win (played on brutal as USA). I got more gameplay out of the older titles. I was a bit uneasy with the American/Arab/Chinese stereotypes. It was far too short.

The Bottom Line
great game - enjoyed it thoroughly - but finished it in a day.
