Dear Fellow Adventurer,
Get in touch with your adventurous side during a weekend experience you won’t forget. Mark your calendars, because it will be a fun filled weekend!
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft is hosting its third Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventures (OWOA), an outdoor educational weekend for women. Enjoy a girls’ weekend while learning new and exciting outdoor and water activities at Maumee Bay State Park, in Oregon, Ohio. Indoor activities and overnight accommodations will be held at the Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center. We will be giving out 10 scholarships to attend this event. Please refer to the attached application for additional information.
The weekend will take place on Aug. 26-28, 2016. Enjoy the scenic meadows and coastal environment of northwestern Ohio while learning a variety of outdoor skills with other women. Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventures is open to all women, including girls 12 or older who are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Participants will be able to engage in aquatic workshops on canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, trailering, launching/loading and powerboating basics. Fishing workshops will include pond fishing, charter fishing, bow fishing and frog gigging.
Enjoy a colorful bird walk or tram tour at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Learn how to backpack, build a shelter and fire and cook out on that campfire. Discover tree trivia and edible plants and learn how to make maple syrup. Get in touch with your sharpshooter side with introduction classes on the handgun, shotgun and rifle.
Enrich your garden with the “Wild About Gardening” session, with classes on native plants for wildlife, pollinators in peril and kitchen composting. Ensure the backyard will be visited by the beautiful monarch with a class on raising these butterflies.
For those who enjoy the evening, join us for a night life boardwalk excursion, or you can rise early for a water aerobics class. Detailed workshop descriptions are attached, and are also available on our website at watercraft.ohiodnr.gov/owoa.
