BECCA has learned to get pretty good at chasing down balls. It actually learned to exploit the geometry and dynamics of the world and discovered an efficient strategy that I hadn't foreseen.

I love how it gets "bored" at 4.2 hours, stops chasing the ball, and just bounces off the walls in a circular manner.

Azriel,

So true. Although, if you look at the reward history, the circular bouncing pattern actually helps it sweep the space and catch the ball more often than its strategic aim-and-fire approach. It's fun to see the robot learn to game the system, but I was hoping to force it to learn a skilled behavior, rather than learn to blindly ricochet off the walls. In the next iteration, I'm introducing a small penalty for touching the walls in order to encourage a more thoughtful strategy.
