Subject: (Test Mail) Invitation to join the GaaBESU Shibpur Foundation USA - a 501(C) tax-exempt entity

Dear fellow alumnus/alumna:

Please find an invitation/application form to join the GAABESU Shibpur Foundation USA, a 501(C) tax-exempt entity approved by the IRS. Every BEC/BECDU/BESU/IIEST alumnus located in the USA is eligible to be a member.  Please use one of the two following options.

Here is some relevant background information:

  1. The foundation was set up to create a transparent, administrative overhead free tax-exempt mechanism for raising and channeling money for “activities” related to promoting all round improvement of our alma mater.  The activities listed in the application to IRS and subsequently approved by the IRS cover a broad charter covering infrastructure, awareness, curriculum, awards, research funding, etc. beyond just providing scholarships.
  2. The IRS approval officially recognizes the role of GAABESU India as an execution agency if the IIEST Shibpur USA Foundation decides to do so for any given project
  3. However, other than IRS approval for using GaaBESU India as an execution agency if required, there is no legal relationship between GaaBESU Shibpur USA Foundation and GaaBESU India whatsoever. These are two completely independent organizations.
  4. IRS approval was received in the year 2013 and more than $30,000 has been channeled through the foundation so far.
  5.  It is a zero administrative overhead cost foundation so far – and we intend to keep the “zero administrative cost” model going forward.

Our goal is to work with all the local chapters/individual alumnus in the USA to provide a tax-exempt vehicle for raising money and transparently channeling that money to worthy causes benefitting our Alma Mater.

We are trying to reach out to as many alumni as possible. If you know anyone who may not have received this email, please forward.

We do not anticipate any yearly membership fee, but will require a one time membership application fee of $25.00 to ensure serious interest in becoming a member.

Going forward, once we complete the membership enrollment process, we intend to call a general body meeting to discuss and refresh the future plans and office bearers for the organization.

Additional background Information in case you have questions:

  1. IRS 501 ( C ) status was approved in February 2013.
  2. The entire package of IRS application with by-laws and other details (83 pages / PDF file) will be available to every alumnus who becomes a member.
  3. The organization was first registered in NJ as IIEST Shibpur USA Foundation in 2008. However, given the long delay before BESU was recognized as IIEST, in 2010 the name was officially changed to GaaBESU Shibpur USA Foundation and the change was approved by the New Jersey Department of Treasury. IRS application and approval was based on the name GaaBESU Shibpur USA Foundation
  4.  Narrative description of the goals of the foundation as submitted and approved by the IRS

  • To assist in creating and nurturing a mutually beneficial relationship among the institute, its alumni, and future students
  • To promote and contribute to the development of infrastructure, curriculum, and research programs at BESU
  • To raise awareness regarding the current areas of academic research being conducted at BESU
  • To publicize the long-term plans being drawn up by the current administration of BESU to transform it into one of the top universities for engineering and science in India in the next 10 years.
  • To connect the faculty and administration of BESU with some of its alumni who hold prestigious academic positions in major North American universities
  • To assist BESU in improving its knowledge base and in the development of innovative technology that serves the needs of society
  • To do all such things as may be deemed to be incidental and conducive to the attainment of the foregoing objectives.
