Dear Swapan da,

Per the chain of conversations below, it will be great if we can send out a dedicated message for Souvik on the GAABESU mailing list targeting graduates from the below-mentioned years (1996 - 2002).  If that group is tough to identify, we are fine with this being sent to the entire GAABESU community.  The message we would like to send out is in the body of this e-mail.

Per discussions that Biswarup and I had with Bhaskar da and with other alumni, accepting personal checks will not be an option since some of us/our spouses are employed with government agencies or financial institutions where declaration of any monies not received through regular income sources is a cumbersome process.  We have made a request in the e-mail below that community members consider using online remittance forums to donate to this cause.

Thank you for all your help and Biswarup and I will be happy to give you a call per your convenience if you would like to discuss any other aspects before sending this message out.

Regards,
Subho.

An Appeal to help Late Souvik Ghosh (99CE) Surviving Family

Initiated on January 3, 2015

This New Year is NOT going to be the same again for the Ghosh family and many of their extended BEC

family. Souvik Ghosh (99-CE) aka ‘Boudi’, is no more with us. He was fighting with Cancer since 2009

and literally refused to bow down for 5 long years to this dreaded disease. Souvik lost his battle on 18-

Dec-2014 and we lost one colorful page from our B. E. College chapter of life. He would not join us any

get-togethers or, reunions. Life would move on, but our cherished memories with ‘boudi’ at Bending

Moment, Oval or REBECA would remain forever with us. He is survived by his unfortunate 10 year old

son, wife (homemaker) and aged parents (Souvik being the only child of his parents).

Friends of late Souvik decided to raise fund with the consent of his family (father: Gautam Ghosh), and

GAABESU has agreed to provide the logistics to raise a fund for building a corpus amount which will

support the education of his son. GAABESU appeals to all BEC/BEDCU/BESU Alumni to generously

donate to the cause of the Souvik Ghosh (99CE) and support his immediate family, in this hour of need.

A brief description of the case

· He was first diagnosed Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in June 2009. He was treated by chemotherapy

and radiation at Apollo cancer Hospital, Kolkata.

· Relapsed in January in Jan 2011. Underwent Bone marrow transplantation in April 2011 at

Apollo Cancer Hospital, Kolkata

· Further relapsed in January 2012. Thereafter he was on homeopathic treatment since March

2012 to March 2014.

· Then Souvik was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney disease due to aggravation of lymphoma in his

body. Both kidneys failed and he was under dialysis, since May 2014.

· His condition started deteriorating since Sept 2014 and his lungs and pelvis got affected with

cancer. He was unable to walk, speak and breathe properly. He continued office till end-Nov.

· On 01-dec Souvik was admitted in Columbia Asia Hospital. He breathed his last at 8.00am in the

morning, 18-Dec-2014.

Goal - An estimate of fund required and availability of fund: Rs.10 Lahks (for education of his Son)

How to Donate

A. Online payment through direct debit from bank account, Debit/Credit Cards, or Cash for remittances made in Rupees – Income tax benefits for Indian tax payers under 80(G)

GAABESU has streamlined Online Payment Collection System through the State Bank of India (SBI).

Payments to GAABESU for any approved purpose can be made using ANY of the following modes:

a) Direct debit from any Indian bank account (account maintained in Rupee and NOT in any foreign

currency)

b) Using and Indian Debit or Credit Card.

c) Cash deposit at any counter of SBI branch. The person making remittance needs to generate a

challan through this portal and use that challan to deposit cash at any SBI branch.

Step by step process

1. Go to www.onlinesbi.com

2. Click on the tab 'State Bank Collect'

3. Accept terms and conditions and then click 'Proceed'

4. Select State of Corporate/Institution- 'West Bengal' from the drop-down list

5. Select Type of Corporate/Institution- 'Others' from the drop down list

6. Select 'GAABESU' from the drop down list. A page with GAABESU name and logo will appear.

7. Select category- "Membership or Donation”

8. Enter all personal information in the Form that would pop up. Then select the Purpose of

Payment. You need to choose from Membership Subscription/Scholarship or Award/Emergency

Fund/Alumni Day/ Others. If you choose 'Others' then mention the details of purpose on the box

provided. Enter information texts into all the fields. Please avoid “,” or other special characters. For

http://www.becollege.org

remittance by non-alumni put “NA” into the fields asking for year of passing, branch, degree etc.

9. Enter the amount to be paid and then proceed.

10. Review the information.

11. Select the preferred payment options - direct bank debit/debit card/credit card/cash payment

at SBI branch etc.

12. Make payments. Thank You.

B. Payment by Cheque – Income tax benefits for Indian tax payers under 80(G)

Cheques from Rupee accounts can be drawn in favour of ‘GAABESU” and sent to the following

address:

Honorary Secretary - GAABESU

University Guest House

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur

Howrah-711103

WB, India

Please write personal details of the remitter and the purpose (Souvik Ghosh Emergency Fund) for

which the remittance is being made on the backside of the cheque.

C. Payment in USD – No Income tax benefit for donors

Please consider making a direct donation to the GAABESU account in Shibpur mentioned below.  Regular electronic money transfer channels to India should work perfectly fine.  Personally, we have used channels like ICICI Bank's Money2India.  Setting up the GAABESU account as a "recipient" and then making a transfer took less than 5 minutes.

We urge you to consider using your electronic transfer mechanism of choice, Money2India, XOOM, etc. to make a contribution to this cause.  Thank you for thinking of a very special member of the BE College community as his family struggles to regain some composure following this irreparable loss.

D. Remittances from other countries - No Income tax benefit for donors

Any remittance to GAABESU in foreign currency can be made to the following designated account

using bank wire transfer facility:

A/C Name: GAABESU- FC

A/C Type: Current Account

A/c Number: 1532050000550

Bank: United Bank of India

Branch: BESUS Branch

Address: B E College Campus, Shibpur; Howrah 711 103; INDIA

For online transfer:

· Swift code for electronic transfer: UTBIINBBOBC

IFSC Code for UBI, BESUS branch: UTBI0BUSF63 (5th letter stands for zero).

I see without USA contribution, nearly 2 lakh raised in a week which is good and once USA payment option (still waiting as Biswarup nor Subho confirmed yet). We will send another update for Souvik's case in next days once we have USA payment option confirmed.

All alumni from 1996-2002 in our database should receive these mass mails. What we need is to forward these messages to batch/group mails (Yahoo/Google groups, FB). We also can ask them to subscribe to GAABESU mails.

If needed, we will provide our database for 1996-2002 during the weekend which I need to download and filter. We need to make sure we use this list carefully.

Best,
Swapan

This a very good suggestion. The respective executive committee forwards the messages/appeals. Niloy and Swapan will do the needful once the USA coordinator is identified.

Bhaskarda,

The kolkata coordinators, tajashik and ayan were hoping that we get the email and ph for the 1996-2001 graduates who are  gaabesu or becaa members. Or if there can be a more focussed effort for this group parallel to the general effort. The reason is that 1996-2001 grads will have a better chance at knowing boudi or souvik.

Think previously it was on the web, but not sure now.
