Sorry I could not participate/ add anything in the discussion as I was on
tour.
I am only one possibly who feels Mumbai is much much better than Kolkata(
or rather Howrah as I cannot comment about whole of Kolkata). SOUMITRA also
has settled down in mumbai. And Ratish may dream but will never be able to
go back. Okhane oke ke debe chakri?????
1. I dont know about other cities but main difference is work culture. In
mumbai everyone is so professional. In kolkata still government offices are
very very hopeless. I have interacted with LIC, Medical Insurance,
Corporation etc in Kolkata and people just dont work. Even L&T Kolkata
office staff are hopeless and that is most of the VRS was given to Kolkata
office people. In mumbai even government organizations are much more
professional and hardworking. After having started working in mumbai
working culture, cannot dream of ever working in Kolkata.
2.I dont think u can roam around in Kolkata at 1 p.m. in the night without
any hassles. Saturday or Sunday when we go around with family, we mostly
return around 11.30-12 in the night. Not only that there is no problem of
transportation but it is also very safe. Kolkata it is dicey after 9 p.m.
2. In mumbai people will not even look at u even if u are walking holding
hands of ur wife/girlfriend on the main road. Kolkata-e eta bhaba jaena.
Even we have seen people kissing openly in the streets or in cars etc and
there is no issues. Kotata-e esob bhaba jae.
3. In mumbai, we need not go out of your house for buying our regular
household. everything is available on a phone call. Whether it is Sabzi or
Chal-Dal or Medicines or cooked food. It is only just a phone call away.
Kolkata-e eto sob not possible at all areas( may be available at selected
areas). This sort of facility holds special relevance for people like us
who r regularly on tour and then wife has to manage everything on her own.
In mumbai, u will find real competition in retails to get more business
forget about taking people for granted.
4. In kolkata I have search for an ICICI ATM. In mumbai, anywhere u go, u
will see an ATM. It is just in front of our house, near office, all
stations, airports.
5. My house is almost 30 k.m from my office but it hardly takes 45 min to
reach there. Can u ever dream it in Kolkata?????
6. Talk of home loan----------- ICICI bank representatives come to your
house for all docuemnttation. You just have to sign and the cheque will
come to your house. POssible in Kolkata?????? I dont think it is possible
in Kolkata.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT I DONT LIKE KOLKATA. ULTIMATELY IT IS MY LAND OF
BIRTH. But cannot think of working there. It is a good place to lead a
retired life and enjoy life.
