Neither models nor miracles: a look at synthetic biology

A post by Robert Fortner discussing how various groups are using
Synthetic Biology as a method to model and understand complexity. The
article features work done at the ISB, as well as Drew Endy's Biofab.
Here's a snippet:

The problem is conceptual, not computational. "We haven’t yet
understood how to reconstruct networks," explained Gustavo Stolovitzky
of IBM Research. "Brute force computing is not going to solve the
problem at this point. If you have the wrong model, you can run in
your computer things that have nothing to do with reality."
