If we take the rising degree as beginning of the 1st house, then counting 30 degrees from that point will be first house. This method of counting house cusp will allocate planets to probably different houses than where they are paced in the main rashi chart (D1). This kind of allocation of planets to houses is called chalit chart (also called bhava chalit chart because is shows planets in bhavas i.e. houses).

Chalit chart shows how the results will eventually turn out. For example, if a planet occupies 12th house in rashi (main) chart but occupies 11th house in chalit chart, it indicates losses as general thumb rule but then eventually this loss would turn into gains at some later point.

If opposite is the case i.e. a planet occupies 11th house in rashi (birth) chart but goes to 12th in chalit chart, then general tangible gains acquired during that planet's period will eventually result in loss at a later point.

There are two variations of reckoning house cusps i.e. beginning of the house - equal and unequal sign methods. In equal sign method all signs measure equal i.e. 30 degree whereas unequal signs method gives varying signs based on latitude of the place. These astronomical/technical details are mentioned in Surya siddhanta and many other treatise eg Siddhanta Shiromani by Bhaskaracharya, etc. In typical vedic astrology scenario, equal signs are used by default but some branches eg KP systems use unequal signs.

There is another method which uses western Placidus method to allocate degrees to each sign by calculating the longitude/latitude of the place which is used by KP method and it's variants. I personally think this chalit chart makes more practical sense instead of Shripati method.

I will describe a scenario here. The purpose of chalit chart is to see two planets in house if they are say, just 3 degree away but fall in two different signs. Example: Jupiter in 28 degree Cancer and Moon in 1 degree Leo. Rashi (lagna) chart will show them in different houses even though they are just 3 degree away. Chalit chart in above example will show them in same house.

Now I will describe another scenario. Let's say Jupiter is in 14 degree Cancer and Moon is in 17 degree Cancer. If rising degree is 15 degree Cancer, chalit chart will put these planets in different houses even though they are just 3 degree away in the middle of the same sign. So, we are creating the same problem which we are trying to solve (by using bhava chalit chart). Even in the previous example, if rising degree was 29 degree, then even chalit chart will put the two planets (in previous para) in different houses.

So bhava chalit can be used for independent study as an additional tool to see planets in bhavas with reference to rising degree but it's not appropriate solution to handle the above "discrepancy" i.e. two planets that are very close in degrees but in different signs.

Just read the main chart and check the modified strength of the planets in navamsa and dreshkan. You do not need to use chalit chart at the beginning as it's a little too much to handle multiple charts for analysis. That's the way to go atleast first 6-12 months.

In almost all traditional practice, the twelve houses (bhāv) of a chart have the same boundaries as the twelve signs in the chart; in other words, each sign is a house in the chart. The beginning of each house is the 0th degrees of the sign and the end is the 30th degree of the sign. What varies from chart to chart is the enumeration of these houses, i.e., which sign is the first house, which is the second, and so forth. This is determined by the position of the Lagna (the Ascendant, or the longitudinal point of the zodiac that was rising in the East at birth.) The house in which the Lagna falls is usually the first house of the chart, and the other houses follow it, counter-clockwise, in the sequence of the zodiac. It is possible, however, for the houses to be defined relative to some other factor, such as a planet, a sign, or any other factor.

More than one system to align houses with signs are recognized in Jyotish. The most common method is described above, a method that Western astrologers call the whole sign house system; another is Sripathi, introduced by Sripati, akin to a Porphyry house system. The modern Krishnamurti Paddhati also incorporates a Placidus house system.

The principle of House Division introduced in Sripathi Bhāv System is described as follows: "In the Sripathi system the 1st house cusp is the Lagna, and the 7th house cusp is the Descendant opposite it, the 10th house cusp is at the MC (Medium Coeli or Madhya Lagna), i.e. Zenith, and the 4th house cusp is at the IC (Imum Coeli or Patala Lagna) i.e. Nadir. The four quarters divided thus should be divided into three equal parts each, and thus we find the 12 house cusps in Sripathi system. To find the Bhava Sandhis (meeting points of houses) we should divide the distance between the house cusps into halves."[2]

In Indian Vedic astrology, also, the twelve houses are called Bhava and have meanings very similar to their Western counterparts. The houses are divided into four 'bhavs' which point to 'mood' or what the house stands for. These four bhavas are Dharma (duty), Artha (resources), Kama (desires) and Moksha (liberation). These bhavs are called 'purusharths or 'aims in life.' The ancient mystics of India realized that the austere path of the yogi was not for everyone. They found that each human existence has four worthwhile goals in life:

I have been following the discussion here on Bhava and Rasi charts. It is to be noted that the planetary positions in a Rasi chart of a native may change in a Bhava chart. If it is not taken into consideration we are likely to go wrong in our predictions.

According to him in Harshad Mehta's Rasi chart, the 2nd lord Venus is in the 12th house. He states that such position "cannot give the legendary wealth which the native was able to accumulate. It is due to the fact that in the Chalit Chakra Venus has shifted to the ascendant. This example again demonstrates how risky it is to ignore the Chalit chakra."

The space and heavens ..Grahas and Rasis have no entrance or exit points but human lives have a start point and end points. Janma Kundli or Birth charts are only valid for the time span of a Jeeva\u2019s entrance and exit.

3. Even if planets are in bad positions in bhava chart, if they are in good positions in varga chart from the ascendant they give benefic results to that varga. Even if the planets are strong in bhava chart, if they are placed in bad positions in varga chart they would not give benefic results and they will give bad results to the life aspect of that particular varga chart. The planets who are benefic both in bhava chart and varga charts would give very good results. Even if planets are strong and placed in bad places, if they are in good places in varga charts they give mostly good results only. Even if planets are strong and placed in good positions in bhava chart, if they are in bad places in varga charts they will give bad effects only to the life aspects represented by those varga charts. If planets are asthangatha (nearest to sun) or grahayuddh parajita ( defeated in war) in bhava chart, even if they are in good places in vargas they will not give good results and such planets if they are in bad places in vargas they will give much more bad results.

6. Mahayogas in varga charts will give good results. Aspect of natural malefic planets is bad. Aspect of natural benefic planets is good. Even if planets are in bad places if aspected by strong Jupiter it will be good and in this aspect of neecha (debilitated) Jupiter will not be useful.

7. The placement of lordship of bhavas in varga charts is not to be considered. The placement of bhava lords in bhava chart only is to be taken. In varga charts, the placement of lord of lagna (ascendant) in that varga chart is important.

9. It will be good if in every varga chart if lagna (ascendant) is vargottam (same sign in rashi & navamsha) and if its lord is in benefic position. If not so but in malefic positions, then the resultant good effects will be felt in dreams only. If lagna and lagna lord are vargottam then it will
be very good. The position of lagna lord in good places is important.

11. In all varga charts, it will be good if more planets aspect lagna. In all Vargas, It will be good if lagna has got subha-argala (good planets on both sides) and it will be bad if lagna has got papa-argala (bad planets on both sides). Malefic planets should not join with the subha-argala planets. If benefic planets join papa-argala planets, even if bad results are in the beginning, good results will come later on. For planets also subha-argala is good and papa-argala is bad.

16. There are karakatwas (significations) for different vargas. If those karaka planets are in karaka bhavas of those vargas they will give bad results. For example: In Siddhamsha if Mercury is in 4th, in Saptamsha if Jupiter is in lagna1, if in navamsha Venus is in 7th, in Dwadasamsha if Sun or Moon are in 12th, if in Drekkana Mars or Jupiter in 3rd or 11th respectively then they will give bad results respectively to education, children, wife/husband, father, mother, younger or elder coborns. The planets in 3rdand 8th are marakas (death inflicting) for karakatwas of those vargas.

Hi Sir, if a bhava is unoccupied and no planets are in the bhava lord star, does the bhava lord get full strength for the bhava results. And does it matter if bad or good aspects on the bhava presumably bhavas do come under aspects just like signs Please clarify this generic question

In Vedic astrology, the houses are known as bhavas or fields of action where the different areas of life are highlighted. Houses join the planets and signs as the building blocks on which chart analysis derives.
