howdy cid!

i live in portland and i have a batch 5 makerbot (#98), documented
here:

http://fabricating.tumblr.com

*really* admiring your print quality - as you can see from my
documentation, i'm still sorting things out, failing (whilst learning)
a lot. i have a lot of trouble getting rafts to properly stick,
printing big objects, etc... perhaps i need to fiddle with skeinforge
more.

nevertheless, just wanted to send a shoutout. great to know there's
another makerbot in the vicinity.

cheers

Hey mFelix,

Yeah I'm in the same boat. It is a struggle between getting a raft
which is easy to remove and a raft that will not remove easily. Easy
means that you risk having the print fail. Hard means that the object
just won't come off easy. This means the base either breaks or worse
the bottom peals off. I've been printing around 23-25 degrees celcius
and had tried at around 16-18 cecius with success. So the argument of
hot or cold print area is interesting. I have yet to try a hot build
area. I you would like to get together some time let me know. The
Portland techshop is considering starting up some sort of "makerbot"
group or event, but I'm not sure how it will work with membership and
all that. Hope it's not involved because it really limits attendees.
Anyway. Nice to meet you as well.

cid,

i tried some watertight prints this weekend, ended up in failure but the build quality was decent. i'm getting a lot of build 'burps' - i've tried the SD card but it doesn't seem to think it's formatted correctly - do you print from the computer or card? i'm wondering/hoping that will get rid of the burping action.

i'd totally be down for a meetup! the techshop would be great (never been there, heard great things though). let me know if the techshop will allow an 'outsider' to come, if not, we can figure something out.

Yeah techshop allows visitors and such.  You wouldn't be able to use any equipment, but I don't think they would mind us just using some space to share makerbot knowledge. We could probably just go into the classroom.  They have a dimension 3d printer also. You'd probably like to see that.  It gives you an idea about what reprap and makerbot is aiming for.  I can meet weekdays after 6pm and weekends anytime.  Let me know.  I'll bring my makerbot and what I have made of a Mendel also.

yes, at techshop, if you can pull the appropriate strings... i'm pretty flexible with my midday/afternoon schedule - what time works best for you?

Really it's your call. I basically live down The street. Name a time and I'll be there.  As far as getting you in.  They will for sure be ok with it considering it's your first time there.  They are always on the hunt for future members.  Once you see what they offer you may be interested.

Perfect!  If not then I can laser cut some new parts for ya.  If you have a wishlisf be sure to bring it.  Also bri some acrylic sheets.  I can't provide material.  They do sell material at the techshop though.

Hey Michael,
I just read this post.  Sounds familiar to your situation.
"Nichrome doesn't take too well to rewrapping. If you've rewrapped it, it gets prone to holes in the silicone coating and I've seen that cause a short before once."

I'll be sure to bring the peek barrel next time.  Thanks for meeting up and good luck with getting your extruder running.
