Howdy! I don't have my printer yet as I am still researching options.
I prefer larger print area and better build quality (less stair-
stepping) than the current MakerBots appear to produce. This new one
looks promising:

More info should be available on that in a few weeks. In the mean
time, I am researching solid modeling programs. I am specifically
interested in designing toys, so I have been looking at 3D sculpting
software as opposed to old-school 3D modeling. I did study 3D modeling
on old-school mainframe systems, so I'm not afraid of crappy
interfaces, but I prefer something that gives me the shortest model
creation time. Here is what I have found so far but I am open to
suggestions for others I don't know about. The best appear to be small
lesser-known programs.

CB Modeler - excellent quick interface, if a little feature weak.
Sculptris - Also excellent but feature weak and does not output STL
and thus requires further processing.
EasyToy - This would be perfect, were it not made for plush toys! Some
adjustment will be needed so that toys can stand. Takes a different
approach - starts with a 2D drawing and "inflates" it with stuffing!
Fibermesh - looks promising but won't run on 64 bit Windows. Another
different approach - sculpting with curves.

I also looked at Mudbox and Zbrush but they are expensive and do far
more than I need. What I really need is something in-between CB
Modeler/Sculptris and Mudbox/Zbrush. Anything I may have missed?

Thanks,

-Mike
