Games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, L.A. Noire, Max Payne, and Red Dead Redemption 2 are available on the Rockstar Games Launcher for direct purchase, but the launcher offers additional benefits as well. For any titles with online features (such as Red Dead Redemption), the Rockstar Games Launcher can be used to buy in-game purchases. For Red Dead Online this means Gold Bars, which can be used to custom modify weapons, horse kits, and unique camp items.

The leaks also showed how the popular American gaming studio plans to introduce new features to its existing mobile games. The new launcher is said to be the smartphone equivalent of Rockstar Games Launcher on PC. However, the studio is yet to confirm the claims.

On June 29, 2023, logan-mcgee shared a thread about how Rockstar Games is testing a mobile launcher for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Android and iOS versions. According to them, the upcoming launcher, which is currently dubbed "Rockstar Mobile," will have many features built-in, including a GTA+ subscription.

The data miner also stated that San Andreas would have new login screens and that players could transfer other standalone games to the launcher for free. Interestingly, they also mentioned that Rockstar Games would allow players to try the mobile games for free for a limited time.

Though Rockstar already offers "San Andreas" and most of its other games through PC marketplaces like Steam and the Microsoft store, creating its own launcher will allow the company to avoid the costly transaction fees that charged by other digital stores.

Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto V" remains one of the best-selling games each month more than six years after its release, and the game's community continues to spend money on in-game microtransactions. Popular marketplaces like Steam take up to 30% of the revenue from digital transactions made in their store, but Rockstar could retain some of that money if players opt to use the Rockstar launcher instead.

"Fortnite" creator Epic Games launched its own digital store front months after creating an independent launcher for "Fortnite." The launcher helped Epic build an audience of more than 250 million players, and now many of those same players are using the Epic Game Store to buy games from other publishers.

Rockstar Games could employ a similar strategy with its game launcher, using "Grand Theft Auto V" and other popular titles. "Red Dead Redemption 2" was the best-selling game of 2018, but Rockstar has yet to confirm if the game is coming to PC.

There are more PC games launchers and storefronts than you can shake a stick at, including the ongoing battle between Valve's Steam and the relatively new Epic Games Store, but now Rockstar has revealed the Rockstar Games Launcher, letting you download and play their games on PC.

What you can't get, however, is Red Dead Redemption or last year's sequel, but the reveal of this launcher has people thinking that this might be about to change, and that we might see 2 (or both) join the likes of GTA V on PC.

A wide array of game-breaking bugs beset the experience, for example. The launcher shutdown for a while as well, then Rockstar pulled the trilogy from sale on the PC storefront entirely. GTA Trilogy has since been restored on the platform, but players continue to encounter bugs, graphical hiccups, and performance issues that hinder a desire to proceed. And since the advent of the so-called Definitive Edition saw Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive remove the classic versions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas from digital stores, the recent remasters count as the only way in which to explore these seminal titles on modern hardware. For some players, though, the will soon change.

In acknowledging the GTA Trilogy's technical issues in a blog post, Rockstar Games announced plans to return the classic editions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas to the Rockstar Store "shortly." The titles will release as a bundle, the post notes, and PC players who purchase the trilogy's Definitive Edition via the launcher through June 30, 2022 can expect to receive the older versions at no extra charge.
